By Peter Lynam, published 2/11/2007

In an industry where quality is often an added bonus, House MD deserves some credit

Thank you for the most perceptive comments about House MD. I agree 100%. This is a series that pushes so deeply into human experience that I have to keep the remote controller in my hand to duck for cover when it gets too intense. There is nothing else like it on television.

Wouldn't miss it for quids.Absolutely the best show on tv.Can't understand why i like the bloke so much because he really is an egotistical pig.Loved the episodes with the policeman and the rectal thermometer.

I'm not generally a big fan of US tv. Used to like my Law and Order, but became jaded when they switched to all the different varieties of. House though is one that has me hooked. My husband schedules himself other things on House nights, and automatically tapes it for me if I am otherwise occupied. A lot of the appeal for me I think is the relatively British acid humour. I grew up on a diet of the ABC, and so generally prefer British tv to US. British humour is very different to US humour, and the ABC used to run some great series based around acid humour. Ones that I can think of that I enjoyed were "as time goes by, "one foot in the grave" and there's another one based around a nursing home that I cant remember the name of, but the central character was essentially a female House - acid, disparaging, but generally likeable just the same.

Hope the producers manage to keep up the spirit without falling into a rut.

j5o6hn... you don't like it, then don't watch it, or don't read it. If you're gonna persuade anyone of anything, you'll need more than a throwaway line of criticism to back your case.

I don't mind a bit of House, though it's been a while since I've watched it, seeing as it competes with The Chaser and at present I don't have a VCR.

It's quite frustrating as they're probably the only two programs I'd go out of my way to see... and they're on at the same time.

Good article, and I see nothing wrong with discussing popular culture be it movie, book or tv show. I agree with all of the article but I remain ambiguous about House. I think the only weakness of the show is the hospital setting. That 4 or 5 diagnosticians would spend all their time on a couple of patients is of course nonsensical.

The House character would work in practically any setting, I would like to see it in another more believable one. I'm not creative enough to suggest one, but I am tired of seeing actors shaking in beds, and the use of other obvious devices to portray a medical crisis.
