By Stephen Hagan, published 3/10/2007

Anecdotally, gamblers have shaken off their disappointment at the lack of horse racing and proceeded into the poker machine area of their pub.

A good honest point of view Stephen.

I think especially for those raised in rural areas, Gambling was intwined in them when they where children by our parents, friends, associates etc.

The horse flu has not shaken the addiction, there are still dogs, NZ races, South Africa, England and Hong Kong to choose from, as well as the other states.

the TAB for a start needs to be taken out of hotels and therefore the exposure is reduced for the gambler who wants to attend a pub to socialise, not to gamble.

If pokies could be reduced down to registered clubs too, this would also help.

My generation has been robbed of many of their futures by the rise in exposure to gambling, house prices, mobile phone and consumer debts.

Lucky us.

Thanks for this article. Thank you for what you have achieved in the last four years. In the present political climate it was great to read a story of a proud and heroic indigenous person. Australia has 20% of the world's pokie machines and it is sad that your addiction is not isolated
