I agree with Michael Flood that censorship is not the answer to protecting children or the community but we still have to take action about the content that is available and the damage this content is doing not just to the children or families that view the pornography, but the victims involved in creating the pornography. We are proud that we are more liberal and open minded than the generations before us but at what cost?

Last year 200 Australians were charged in offences related to child pornography. Is this where are open mindedness will get us. What of the children in these images? Each of these images is an image of abuse - a crime scene. What of the families - the partners and the children of the 200 people charged and the many more that were investigated?

Though censorship is not the answer, doesn't it worry us that 3/4 of 16 & 17 year olds have accessed pornography and mostly by accident and that 1/4 of adults have watched a x - rated film in the last year? Will it take more and more to arouse the interest of pornography users next time they log in? Is not this exposure making us as a society accept the unacceptable?

Where does responsibility lay for protection? If we are advocating against censorship; what are we advocating for? Where is the line where we say, "This here, THIS is unacceptable?"

It is not just "moral panics" that have spurred concerns about the role the internet is playing, it is reality of the abuse that is going on in our society. How can one not panic at the findings of projects like Operation Auxin in Australia last year?
