The British Guardian newspaper's attempt in 2004 to tell United States voters how to vote backfired.

A rare attempt to bring order and colour to the confusing issue of international electoral history.

What the Brits don't understand is that even Democrat Americans have forgotten the bonds of World War Two - this is now seen as America saving Britain from another jam. Politicised Americans also read their history books to the extent that they see the War of Independence as a clear cut War against the Redcoats.

I anticipate most following comments will harp on the US polling system for the Democrat loss in Ohio and in the 2004 elections overall. That is well trod ground and is up there with 9/11 conspiracies as an Official Cult.

My point is that like our ALP today (Bomber Beazley clicking to the beat yesterday...groan) Americans were unable to find a clearly popular opposition leader in Kerry - the dear chap passed the War Hero Test decades before but there is too much of a touchy-feely Easterness there for God fearin, gun totin, mainstream America.
