My schoolfriend and I went on a cruise to Perth in 1951, with a 3-day stop there while they cleaned out the ship. On return to Sydney, there was another 3-day cleanup pause.
In the following year, we did the trip to Cairns, again with a 3-day cleanup pause. There was also a 3-day pause after the cruise ended (in Melbourne)

There were 2 stops between Sydney and Perth,and 3 stops between Melbourne and Cairns.

I don't know if there are such pauses at the end of each turn-around for the bigger cruises.
