An endless search for justice between Indigenous and non-Indigenous citizens.

Frank Brennan's article is profound and illuminating while at the same time frustrating: his short piece ends just where it could have begun:

"We Australians have belatedly come to the right starting point on an endless search for justice between Indigenous and non-Indigenous citizens. Land rights and self-determination are necessary but insufficient antidotes for Indigenous minorities wanting to belong in post-colonial societies coming to terms with their history."

I agree that land rights and self-determination are 'necessary but insufficient', but what else is necessary? Could we start, perhaps, with an economic base for Indigenous affairs that is truly viable in this country?

until we all pay a native title levy on every piece of property in Australia with our rates, Aboriginal people will suffer.

Exactly Realist. But there should be a concession for Indigenous Land/property owners - perhaps even a rebate.

for aboriginal land owners, they too must pay, as more often then not they will be out of their mobs area and will be paying this money to another mob.

With a national administration governing key amenities such as education, health and welfare, andn the individual peoples electing representatives to govern minor funds and projects along the desired envisioned lines, aboriginal people can be the powerbrokers over the next 20 years, as education and health improve, as will their investment knowledge and ability to leverage these funds.

Dont worry, Karma is on our side.

While respecting and thanking Graeme Neate ,president of the Native Title Tribunal for his unique stewardship i think that he, like many others seems to be unable to understand the deep SPIRITUAL and HEALING benefits of Native Title for Aboriginal Traditional owners .
Economic benefits will flow eventually ,but in the mean time knowing that as Traditional Owners they and their families can safely visit important sites and perform traditional activities and have picnics etc with their parents and grandparents will help them as they understand their history. This is everyone's right .
It will have positive effects for all Australians .
