I have never 'surfed'. I did not live close to a beach in my younger days, but I do enjoy the underwater realm. Snorkling, SCUBA diving etc.

The 'norm' is a wonderful creature, born of respect and tolerence for each inhabitant of society.

Yet there are those who gate crash our space , because they can, they want to , and impose their 'power over' another. either in the surf, on the road, in a relationship.

So it is truly a sad day when 'number of individuals, mostly lawyers, who argue that state intervention is required'.

Why? Opportunity for litigation perhaps?

So to all who follow the norms of society with respect for other members of society and the world as a whole, I say - Good onyas !

Enjoy the wind in your face and the sun on your back.

P.S.
the proposed California Open Waves Act, (ii) increased penalties for the existing crimes of battery and threatening “wherein the act was accomplished during an attempt to intimidate or prevent another person from exercising lawful use of ocean resources”;

Would that cover the recent entanglement of the Grenpeace ship with the Japanese whaler- "exercising lawful use of ocean resources" ?

Hmmmmmmmmm

Who cares? - This seems to be the work of a guy who is trying to beef up his populist profile.

I was in Adelaide recently and noticed Mr Mc Convill had a piece in the Advertiser - I am no too sure whether or not he is a regular contributor but I expect he is; some what like an Andrew Bolt or Peirs Ackerman lite; He wrote about the evils of commercialising Easter - a follow up I guess from his Christmas story.

In the 'Tiser piece he even managed to slip in an argument for institutionalised torture - you might recall he wrote about changes to the Victorian Crmes Act whhich, according to his anal isis, opened the door to toruture under Victorian statutes.

Mirko Bajarac, another legal academic who has endorsed torture as well, is also getting a good run in the press lately on a number of issues.

Nothing sinister about that but are we looking at a new wave of youinger members of the commentariat - or a few academics with too much time on thier hands?
