Tolerance of morally repugnant regimes through incapacity, indifference or self interest seems to be one of the recurring failures of human history. Even the "Global Village" and instant information seem to make only a passing impact. Perhaps as Australians we are just too comfortable and far from the problem to worry about it?

Whilst Australians and other nations of travellers continue to fix their sights of Africa through their game-viewing camcorders the majority of nations on that continent will remain terra incognita. Hopefully the hunger for new travel horizons will gradually result in publicity of inequalities and injustices in the lesser-known countries and pressure be brought to bear for their amelioration, with revenue from future tourism as a small carrot.

When looking at how we, living in the west, argue about the effects of "POLUTION" in our cities, it is sadly ironic that we polute the beachs and shorelines of Africa and especialy Somalia with the WORST TOXIC WASTE of the 21st CENTURY. Mainly Italian, German and French companies togather with some "MAFIOS" middle men had committed the worst crime against citizens of Africa by dumbing TOXIC WASTE in the Indian Ocean and also on land in Somalia.
During a short visit to Somalia early last year, I was shocked to see "mystirous diseases" affecting people who were living 300 miles inland, while others close to the Indian Ocean and Red Sea shorelines had similar dieases.
My challenge to Environmental caring citizens of the world is: What are planing to do to overcome this "DISASTROUS EPIDEMIC" that is waiting to explode in our faces?. We, in the West, had poluted Africa more than it can hold, and should take responsibility to clean it up.
