Policies for the Opposition Leader: three paths to electoral success : Comments

By David Leyonhjelm, published 11/4/2025

Although they have been disappointingly ineffective for as long as I can remember, I broadly prefer the Coalition in government to Labor.

"First, while it is abundantly clear that the pursuit of net zero is devastating the economy, the challenge is to find a way to abandon the policy without losing votes".
Morrison won the 'Climate Election' then lost the 'Real Climate Election' when he started counting votes.
We need fairdinkum policy, not vote counting.
Fairdinkum Libs and Nats should form a new party that true conservatives can vote for.

We need a Triolition, Libs, Nats & Pauline.
They'd govern for the good of all & for the better of the Nation. Through in a Gap year national Service & a DOGE & all will be good !
No Nation can ever be run properly with Leftists & Woke !
Society has to get real again !

Simply trying to deceive the voters with popular but deceitful policies, say one thing but do the opposite, this bloke is an expert at it. Only ever managed to get elected by exploiting other peoples supporters.

Indy you say you don't want the Woke, but you'll happily accept the Wacko's. Vote this bloke in, and there goes your aged welfare.

A very pleasant moment has arrived; I can’t disagree with any of this thinking, but his ideas still only scratch the surface of needed reforms.

Individual..The problem of the Coalition with Pauline Hanson was their inability to meet eye to eye with the mentality of her supporters; a huge swath of the disenfranchised community.

I doubt she will forget her time locked up in Jail as consequence of a campaign of Lawfare aimed at diminishing her electoral chances, orchestrated by Abbott and Howard.
It was a badly thought out action with far reaching consequences for LNP into the future, and highlighting to a significant minority, none of upper echelon in Canberra can be trusted…ever!

Supporting the same unchanged upper echelon with a vote is self deprecating…show some self respect and don’t vote as a protest, is my advice. Voting with the expectation of change for the better of what was once Our Country, , is a continuum of disappointing failure.

Nuremberg Dan,

The problem with the small number that don't vote is they are seen as the "lazy disinterested" by the Big Two. What the Big Two do take notice of is the increasing number of voters, particularly younger voters, willing to vote for minor parties and independents. I actually like to see lots of names on the ballot paper, it tests the "bonafides" of generally the Big Two candidates, and their parties policies. I actually like to see the likes of The Luverly Pauline's One Nation stand candidates, I might not vote for them, but it does give a degree of choice to the voters.

What I hate; Albo announces a program by saying " We will spend $20 billion over the next 3 years to stick red hot pokers up the arse of every Australian"...and Dud mimics the same policy. Disgusting!

BTW, I attended a genuine "Concerned Citizens Night", last Thursday, there was about 90 in attendance, at the last election the same meeting attracted about 20. Neither the LNP or Labor came along, a couple of the others did, tells you something, the Big Two claimed pressing engagements prevented. Cant face the real people!

tweedledee and tweeddum chasing each other around the country with promises of millions to spend that will be all forgotten by midnight voting day. Proper clowns without the laugh.
Makes some of these crazies on the outskirts look half worth voting for.
I despair for the future of what was a wonderful country, nearly worth looking at options for retirees in other countries.
