Who shot the Albatross? The question still goes begging; but the only port this wretched ship will cast its anchor, is in their misty dreams!

You lot vote for these clowns, when will you ever learn?

I think we should use the time honoured terms doldrums or wind lulls as well as the German 'dunkelflaute' when the weather is both calm and too overcast for solar. When the wind output is excess to needs Germany pays wind farms to curtail their electricity. Talk about having it both ways.

Perhaps all wind farms should have an onsite energy storage requirement such as batteries. A minor amount such as 4 hours of average power is no good if the storage medium cannot recharge by the next day. That's not only inadequate but expensive if realtime wind costs $50 per MWh and the battery electricity costs $170.

Another problem with wind lulls is the cost of gas backup. Unlike batteries the gas fired power can can continue as long as you have gas. As well as being a fossil fuel that gas is going to get expensive. I read somewher the price has doubled in 5 years if I recall. Perhaps that's why the gas lobby runs TV ads to reassure us they'll always be there when the wind fails. At a price.

Don't expect any debate from the re proponents of the wind and solar fantasy. They are following the golden rule for con artists: never wisen up a sucker.
