Sporting nation, lost identity: where's the real Australia gone? : Comments

By Vince Hooper, published 5/12/2024

What is sport really doing for Australia's identity today? Has our entire sense of self been reduced to an obsession with who can throw, kick, or run the fastest?

Sport is for children; particularly the woke, welcome to country nonsense, particularly cricket and its millionaire captain who plays better political games than he does cricket. I hope India beats the crap out Australia.

We: The gender inclusive plural pronoun, was used by this author in the article thirty three times by my count.

When it comes down to it, we, them and us defines a crowd and not a cohesive Nation, which Australia is not.

In slang, We is used for whatever (shrug shoulders); that’s more like my stand on the issue of not only sport but Australia as it has become!

As yet, we have not had a local council fined $10 000 for not proclaiming an Alphabet People's Day, as was the town of Emo in Canada. But, of course, we have councils in Australia that would jump at the opportunity to show how woke they are, instead of doing what councils are supposed to be doing.

"Here's the crux of the issue: Is sport really the best way to define ourselves as a nation?"

Here's the crux of the issue: Is taking a walk outside scantily dressed in the cold rain and wind the best way to get pneumonia?
