Dutton may be winning in the polls. But he has a major problem to overcome : Comments

Despite recent favourable opinion polls, Peter Dutton faces one big major hurdle in taking his Liberal-National coalition to office at the next federal election.

The whole Liberal/Labor/Greens circus is shot: no longer fit for purpose. The state Liberals, like state Labor, are on the same level as district councils. We could do without state governments or councils. One of them is plenty. We are not only over-governed, we are over-governed by fools.

We will have to continue with Labor of Liberal federally, probably in minority government; but it would be nice for both of them to be led by two real people, who know what other real people want; and that's neither of the people currently in the job. If they are the best available, God help Australia. Comparing them is a waste of time.

However it's not the quality of politicians we should be talking about: it's the quality of the voters who keep choosing the same idiot politicians with their brains switched off.

I was a member of the Liberal Party in WA for 20+ years and was elected to the state parliament in 1995. But then I lost pre-selection in 2003 to Troy Buswell which is when I discovered the constitution of the WA Liberal Party was written to allow branch stacking and for powerbrokers to retain control of the party, so I resigned from the party (in part because I knew that Buswell would be a failure as he proved to be).
Today, 20 years later, the party has still not changed its constitution to remove the ability of powerbrokers to control the party, so it will remain a second-rate political organisation with low and declining lay membership until changes are made.

Thank you Bernie Masters for reminding us all of our loss of Democracy and the perpetual capture of the Democratic process by the elite and privileged.

While some here blame the voter for the failure to change a broken system, there are others like yourself who remind us of reality and of the inevitable failure and pointless exercise that voting is.
