Sir, the HMNZS Calibre, appears to be sitting low in the water.

Let’s wait for the Court of Inquiry results before jumping to conclusions about the cause of the incident. This article presents some good arguments that the captain should have known better, and made some bad decisions. But there may be factors at play that the author and the rest us don’t know about.
And even if it was the captain’s error, to blame her gender and DEI policies for promoting her beyond her competence, without any evidence, is vile Posted by Rhian, Wednesday, 16 October 2024 3:31:30 PM

I did not prioritise my time to read this article yet, but I was curious what "DEI" means, so I searched the article and found no clue
- good authors should have their reader audience in mind... Posted by Yuyutsu, Wednesday, 16 October 2024 4:24:57 PM

Hi Rhian,
'And even if it was the captain’s error, to blame her gender and DEI policies for promoting her beyond her competence, without any evidence, is vile' You may find it vile, others may find it a reasonable assumption. - Especially when this policy includes 'diversity quotas' BTW, head of inquiry also a woman, Commodore Melissa Ross. DEI's a policy which addresses racial, sexual and gender discrimination, they will not say it is wrong, even if it is a primary cause. Kia Matahuhua me te Whai Wahi- Valuing Diversity and Inclusion http://www.nzdf.mil.nz/nzdf/who-we-are/valuing-diversity-and-inclusion/ >>United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles (UN WEPs) In March 2020, the NZDF adopted the UN WEPs. The NZDF is committed to gender equality and has a vision of being an organisation where all genders can thrive and gender equality is a priority. NZDF aims to be an international leader for gender equality, and have a workforce where women and diverse genders (including Maori, Pacific and women of other ethnic groups) are valued, included, safe and empowered.<< I imagine 'diversity quotas' see more qualified and experienced men overlooked for promotion, resulting in inability to retain these men, they'll leave and you'll have a force largely consisting of incompetent women, many in leadership positions, and a large proportion will be DEI. Men won't gravitate to this kind of environment. The result will be a military not fit to task. Maximising opportunities for Military Women in the New Zealand Defence Force Feb 2014 http://www.defence.govt.nz/assets/publications/maximising-opportunities-military-women-nzdf.pdf >>In the last 15 years, there has been substantial progress in gender equity. Women in the military find it a safer environment, but there is still work to be done particularly in the areas of increasing recruitment, retention and progression to senior ranks. Progress has been made in the development of family-friendly policies and all trades are now open to women. In these areas, the easy fixes have largely been made and further progress will require more intensive work.<< It seems completely reasonable to me they focused on ideology over substance, this ship sinking being the result. Hi Yuyutsu,
DEI stands for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: 'Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are three closely linked values held by many organizations that are working to be supportive of different groups of individuals, including people of different races, ethnicities, religions, abilities, genders, and sexual orientations.
