John how can you be so certain that Australians are not yet ready to accept the mixing of recycled water in potable water supplies? Singapore has shown that the community could be educated and encouraged to take it on. My opinion is that Australians will never be ready until politicians are prepared to show some true leadership on this issue.

The value of recyled water is not just the cost, the big benefits are for our environment.The proposal by NSW that it will install a desalination plant close to the ocean and discharge the waste salt into the deap ocean outfalls through the sewage system is unbelievable. There is an opportunity to actually reduce the amount of effluent/sewage pumped into the ocean.

The other consideration is how long it takes to implement such a scheme. Unless someone makes a move it will never start and we may be out of time if recycling is only introduced as a last resort
