The housing fix we actually CAN do something about : Comments

By Ross Elliott, published 2/8/2024

We can fix this. We could radically rethink the way each level of government is happily but secretly clipping the ticket on new housing, or is adding to compliance costs.

What about fixing the fixed price contracts when costs to builders are not fixed.

That’s how we’re sending the building industry broke as well as the home buyer re article content.

In times of crisis deal with urgencies:

1. Urgently reduce immigration drastically .
2. Deal with the amenities for those one third of the population currently homeless or soon to be homeless as this crisis deepens.

Eg: public toilets that are shut and locked dark to daylight are a public health issue and a marker to the fact that Governments in charge are not serious about the consequences of their actions.

Provision of “Free” safe secure and weather proof overnight parking for those living in vehicles, fitted with amenities supplied and maintained as an emergency Government service.
These can be erected in Industrial zones away from public view.

A revamping of LG regulations that penalise and abuse homeless campers.

And in general a whole new approach at Government level to deal in a “here and now” practical way, the urgency the housing crisis actually is to the individuals caught in its grip.

ttbn what do you mean by "fixing the fixed price contracts"?

Do you think that the government should further intervene and meddle, beyond the already complex constraints and demands of the existing legal framework regarding home construction, with private contracts?

The housing dilemma & much crime could eased dramatically by a NMNS ! Establishing education standards by introducing higher education bench marks would improve mentality which would also reduce totally unnecessary problems. A huge number of problems could be done away with by a smarter & more responsible society ! Don't just blame the Govt, blame yourself as well & both Govt & you will transform into a better society !

It was government that "interfered" and brought on fixed price contracts that you claim not to be aware of.

Most of the builders have gone for government work because that can't make a living out of domestic housing. The government has plenty of our money to sling around.

I know it gets tedious to hear for some people, but we have a thoughtless mass immigration problem not a housing problem. Unemployment is on the rise again - because there are too many people - and more and more people couldn't afford a house if there were any to buy.

It's all about government "interference" and incompetence. The Albanese government interferes in everything, as communists do, and they are incompetent with it.

That is a very blinkered view, are you forgetting to include the LNP on that same scoreboard on purpose. Turnbull was a radical leftist as prime example; you couldn’t possibly describe Morrison as right wing could you? And current LNP leader has simply to do as told or he has no job!

Look to Europe now and feel less threatened because left wing minorities are openly swinging the dog by its tail. Centre right parties form coalitions with radical leftists because their fundamental policies are the same; open borders, environmentalism, DEI , everything the same. Trump supports the Rainbow flag BS, he stated that, which makes him at best centre right and controllable by radical leftists. There is no hole in change within Democracies where all votes flow leftward…don’t vote..give it up mate!
