By Graham Young, published 13/6/2024

On the horror end, news organisations could use AI to write news stories, and sack hundreds of journalists.

If the recent AI scam of Chris Kenny interviewing another known public figure is anything to go by, it will not fool alert people.

The voices were out of sync; they sounded less like Kenny and his guest the more the rubbish went on, and the pronunciations of certain words were not the way that Kenny pronounces them. The “interview” was obviously artificial.

Of course 80% of Australians wouldn't notice this, so we are going to get even more tripe claimed as genuine being regurgitated, including on social media and OLO.

Artificial intelligence is like artificial flowers that you have to test with your thumbnail to see if they are real. The average drone won't be doing that, so the 20% of us are going to have to work harder.

I wonder how many article writers, even for OLO, are secretly using ChatGPT ?

How can they be detected?

Thanks GY.

How to tell someone is using AI?

ChatGPT
Copy

1. They respond quickly and consistently: AI algorithms can process information and generate responses much faster than a human can, leading to quick and accurate replies.

2. They have a vast knowledge base: AI-powered systems have access to vast amounts of data and can provide information on a wide range of topics with detailed accuracy.

3. They lack emotional responses: AI lacks emotional intelligence, so interactions with AI may feel robotic and devoid of empathy.

4. They make errors in understanding context: AI may struggle to understand nuanced or complex language and may provide irrelevant or inaccurate responses.

5. They follow a predictable pattern: AI responses may follow a pattern or structure that is consistent across interactions, making them easy to spot as non-human.

6. They lack personalization: AI responses are often generic and lack personalization, leading to a more impersonal interaction compared to one with a human.

Thanks Canem Malum

For replying to my question: "I wonder how many article writers, even for OLO, are secretly using ChatGPT? How can they be detected?"

No problems Maverick.

If you observed I ironically used ChatGPT to answer your question.

Some have apparently just asked ChatGPT if the article was written by ChatGPT- apparently that's what university lecturers/ markers do to check. But there are ways of using ChatGPT that are 'legitimate'. Universities don't mind people using books to support your arguments but they want you to think about the topic. If you can't even think about whether your answer sounds reasonable, you deserve to fail. Access to knowledge is easier than ever, some things in society are also harder than ever, but students and writers in general need to respect and be grateful for the opportunity they have been given, by acting responsibly and with dedication to the aims of knowledge.
