The argument between X and the government isn't over the censorship of the stabbing. Musk, even though he disagrees with that censorship, nonetheless complied and geo-banned it in Australia ie no Australian using an Australian ISP could see it.

The argument was over the government's attempt to impose a world-wide ban on the video based on the claim that Australians using a VPN would still be able to see it.

This was monumental over-reach and Musk rightly called it out. The authoritarians in the Australian bureaucracy have been running for cover ever since, given that their attempts at universal censorship are clearly out of bounds.

I agree completely with mhaze on this issue, especially since the main victim, Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel, had no objections to the video being shown. The government overreach in trying to control what is shown in the rest of the world is mind-boggling, not to mention treating the rest of us as children who need to be shielded from reality. Not that I have any desire to watch it myself.
