Why we should abandon political parties : Comments

Simone Weil, Hitler in WWII, the current United States imbroglio, and the Australian independents in the last election - the Teals - give us the reasons why political parties should go.

There is something to be said for having politicians actually representing their constituents, instead of a party.

Something's gone wrong in the US where the presumptive main presidential candidates are aged 81 and 78. Trump is apparently considering an ex Democrat (Gabbard) for VP. Watching the Tas election it struck me how similar the party minions looked in their red and blue T-shirts. The whole circus is more theatre and ego preening than problem solving.

In theory Tas Labor could join with Greens to outnumber the Tas Libs but that seems to contradict what the voters want. Nationally both Libs and Labs want high immigration so that points to independents if they have a relevant policy. Some say a vote for a minor party is wasted then again you have the satisfaction of not supporting something you oppose. On balance I think more independents could be a good thing.
