The AMA is wrong about Dr Julie Sladden : Comments

By Kara Thomas, Jeyanthi Kunadhasan and Duncan Syme, published 5/3/2024

Last week, the AMA publicly called for the disendorsement of Tasmanian Liberal candidate Dr Julie Sladden, accusing her of having anti-vaccine opinions that are dangerous and misleading.

I disagree. The AMA is a body of ethical and moral practitioners. Some overseas trained doctors are antivaxxers. And at odds with Australian medical standards.

There's no place in Australia's medical establishment for an antivaxxer! It's fine to hold a contrary opinion, but that should not be allowed inside our medical clinicals/doctors rooms. End of story!

Medical professionals who have concerns about the Covid vaccine or any other vaccine or high-risk pharmaceutical should be able to voice their opinions and have them tested in the public sphere without being arbitrarily shut down and written off as 'anti-vaxxers'.

The right to free speech is a cornerstone of democracy. No-one has the right to shut down opinions they don't agree with. The AMA's stance would be more at home in a dictatorship than in an open democratic state such as Tasmania.

The covid mRNA vaccines were never properly tested. Vaccine manufacturers have been given total indemnity so have no financial incentive to care about safety. These vaccines are increasingly proving themselves to be both risky and ineffective. Unusual blood clotting, myocarditis, pericarditis, unexplained increases in excess deaths ... there are lots of questions being raised and we need free and open debate if we are to find the answers.

Science is always evolving. Good science will always stand up to scrutiny. What is the AMA so afraid of? If these vaccines are so good, they have nothing to worry about.

Meanwhile, all power to Dr Sladden and others who've gone to the trouble to inform themselves and have been brave enough to put their heads above the parapet and speak truth to power. People like this are a vital part of a healthy functioning democracy.
