In the next UN Climate Summit OPEC+ delegates must not back down : Comments

By Tom Harris, published 11/1/2024

In last month's United Nations Climate Change Conference, it appeared at first that OPEC+ nations had injected a note of much-needed realism into the event.

I disagree with most of this self-serving C.R.A.P. Garbage, risible rubbish and verbal vomit/excrement.

We need to transition to nuclear power yesterday. And use it to create endlessly renewable hydrogen as our portable fuel.

Other than that, new lithium free battery technology makes electric vehicles a cost competitive, viable alternative, also.

The energy barons are only interested in their survival and profit curve.

The tobacco and asbestos industries their scientific experts told their masters one thing and the ever-gullible public another, for as long as twenty harmful years.

Ditto the oil/fossil fuel industries, pertaining to climate change.

I don't agree with Tony Abbott's ‘climate change is crap’. Climate does change back and forth. But the idea that it is our fault; that it's carbon dioxide's fault; that we have to kill fossil fuels and bugger up the economy - now that is crap. And, the people responsible for the crap are not just crapping in their own nests: they are crapping all over us, and we keep voting for them to keep doing it!

Climate change is not crap! And we do not need to continue burning fossil fuels. Transitioning to Nuclear and hydrogen will do no harm whatsoever, to the economy, just the very opposite! Creating new business and job opportunies all over the place! But most of all, ending our insane reliance on fully imported petrol that burns as much or more than 64 billion dollars annually.

The sun controls our climate and has been in a cooling, (waning) reduced activity, phase since the late seventies, that in normal times would usher in a mini-ice age. Not the record heat waves. And a decade long drought the worst in living memory!

There's nothing more ignorant and arrogant than an illiterate, know it all pom.

Before engaging mouth put brain into gear. Try to disregard that nasty burning smell and the smoke pouring out your ears as previously unused cerebral circuits are forced to operate.

Try reading a book or two rather than parked in front of the tele, vegetating as you allow right wing media to do all your thinking for you.

The way I see this whole issue is a replay of the landed gentry who bemoaned the changes brought on by the Industrial Revolution in the 1700's. They weren't smart enough to recognise that changes were underfoot. As a result they were left behind in their massive, expensive to maintain mansions while new, younger, clever, innovative entrepreneurs grasped the new opportunities. Same thing is happening now. And no, the economy didn't collapse then, and neither will it collapse now. It simply means that someone else will have the dosh, and the old guard will be left behind in their fading mansions. Failure to grasp this reality is a failure to understand a fundamental truth of life, love and the universe - nothing ever stays the same forever.

And worst case scenario - and global warming turns out to be hoax - at least we will have clean air to breathe and the skies might be blue again.
