Cancelling the F-word: no more failure : Comments

By Steven Schwartz, published 5/10/2023

The Australian government wants to obliterate failure from education. Universities could even be fined if students fail.

But let's not forget, the real reason for the abolition of failure. It has nothing to do with the needs of local students, everything to do with the "export education industry" so beloved of Liberal and Labor. The latter has an astonishing 850K student/graduate visas inside Australia presently.

Education these days is a reminder of the old time sideshow barkers who shouted out, "Everyone wins a prize".

People who score less than 50% have failed. They are not failures as human beings. They just have to look for jobs not needing tertiary qualifications.

Only yesterday I heard on ABC radio that employers were losing interest in degrees where jobs do not require them. They are not interested in pieces of useless paper that everyone has been conned into believing they must have.

Universities will pass people who are incapable because they are just businesses now. Education is regarded as an 'industry' by the political class, who are happy to see international 'students' who can't understand English take home worthless degrees, or worse, stay here and join the already incompetent workforce.

Universities are more immigration agents than educators.

Money speaks ALL languages…including English, is one, and number two is…drum roll…you get what you pay for.

There is nothing crooked or corrupt under this rock as now in the post Christian era, morality is dead, replaced by secular ethics.

Welcome to the great age of the New Secular Enlightenment.

I have to agree with Israel's Sephardi Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef: Secular Jews have lower intelligence.

Standing in the shade of the Secular rainbow are the many examples of lost in the woods morality unable to distinguish male from female; that’s about as lost as you can get.

Dropout rates, by and large, have an economic basis.

Country kids, living away from home, need to find rental accommodation and meals. And rents being as they are? May need to work multiple jobs for pennies to make do?

The same applies to postcode poverty regions. The consequence is kids too tired to concentrate on lectures or take notes. And too tired to do justice to exams.

If the dropout rate is to be reduced? The economic factors contributing to it, must be PROPERLY addressed!

And universities must get back to core fundamentals as best practice tertiary education. And not become as many have, businesses touting for cashed up foreigners.

And entry standards must be improved, so as the best and brightest, regardless of economic background, are given every opportunity to succeed. And as they do, the economy does as well!

For every dollar spent on higher ed. 2.5 dollars are returned to the economy.

So, tertiary education as outlined, must be considered as a long-term investment in Australia's future!

Freedom of choice,
I certainly am not one of them but when you have those who are like the ones you refer to are put in charge courtesy of Public Service Unions's Peter Principle then well, that's what we get.
The sooner the loony Left is put aside the sooner sanity will make a comeback !
