It goes without saying, the biggest liar will always be the government. You thought no one could top Morrison, but Albanese has outclassed him.

And yet, it is my understanding, that the government is effectively exempt from this legislation. I would be very worried indeed.

Freedom of speech. Not free speech. Speaking your mind is often costly.

Freedom of speech will end in Australia if the political class is allowed to determine what is 'misinformation' and 'disinformation' - particularly as they are bigger liars than Tom Pepper themselves. Just think Covid. Anyone who trusts the bastards after Covid is a fool.

We need to remember that both the only two parties that can form a government in this failing country want to censor and control us. The duopoly gives us very little say, except when it suits them, and then they put on a referendum because the Constitution says they must.

Other "democracies" already have restrictions on freedom of speech: if the government doesn’t clamp down on freedom of speech, corporations like banks will.

I can't see how this draconian Bill, first suggested by Morrison, and now put up by Albanese, can be defeated. They already have a population that accepted losses of freedom second only to Communist China during Covid. Australians are a pushover.

One thing is certain Leftism is way more corrupt than Conservatism & the latter has proven to to be pretty bad !

The war for truth was an interesting phrase used by the author.

The happening of Truth is not through the mind - it is at the heart. Truth is not a proposition argued over and against other propositions. Truth is self-evident because the heart authenticates it in the moment of reception.
Truth is an embrace, just as love is. You do not get argued into love. It is self-evidently right.
One responds to truth as one does to love, simply through recognizing it. It is not about argument, not about the domain of mind, or of opposites.

Meanwhile why not check out this very authoritarian movement and its wall-to-wall lies which has the support of at least 72 right-wing think tanks and/or propaganda groups, many/most of which are Christian.

Disagree with the Author on this one and believe there was so much wilful BS and or patent propaganda online, something needed to be done about it and those responsible!

Official Government published fact checking and repudiation might be a good first step.
