The word 'basketcase' does not begin to describe Qantas : Comments

By Graham Young, published 4/9/2023

Now that Qantas is running at a profit again, the Australian public and the consumer watchdog think CEO Alan Joyce is short-changing them.

The Senate is worth having just for the caning it gave Joyce.

Enough of the 'national airline' song-singing nonsense and taxpayer money for a private company, which is protected from competition by the government. The scenes of Albanese and Joyce leaning into each other and giggling have been nauseating.

Bugger Qantas.

First of all, rapid rail down the eastern seaboard would eliminate the need for a national domestic carrier, leaving only large western towns available for all comers.

And should quaint ass be limited to offshore only, it would also run at a substantial loss.

And that is why rapid rail is just hot air, rolled out at election time by labor. Or limited to 125 KPH. And that means air is quicker, once you're off the ground.

That said, once my VTL, nuclear battery powered, (scientifically sound intellectual concept) solid state, star drive is proven, air travel will be cheap as chips, carbon free.

Available almost anywhere without the need for more than a terminal and a paddock, and profits never ever impacted by the ever-changing price of oil.

Floatation would also improve access to locations around the globe. And improve search and rescue capabilities/the flying Doctor.

VLT trains can reach speeds of up to 3500 KPH. And serve the nation for generations.

Only, par for the course, short termninism, would limit us to old technology and trains that do 125 KPH.

It's not just Qanit ass that's a basket case, but the current government that stupidly rules the best options out!

And for them it's the same old, same old, dumbass, business as usual.

If they shared a brain between them, it'd be lonely. And if you put that one in a thimble, you'd still hear it rattle.

I think you meant to say VFT Trains can reach 350kmph. The problem with the Melbourne Brisbane route is that it goes through the Great Dividing Range requiring significant tunnelling. As others such as Ayn Rand say trains possibly can't be just for passenger transport because the profit in trains comes from freight.

QANTAS have been clever over past generation in having governments cater to them commercially by both precluding competition and like all, helping rebut or ignore calls for fast rail down the east coast (does not need to be high speed, simply fast, reliable and in the right places).

Many ageing voters view QANTAS as an icon which should be renationalised.....nooo!

They ignore that state owned monopolies, industries etc., unlike public &/or private, if they lose money &/or commercial advantage, they can be bailed out by the state via taxpayer supported budgets; see Greece, Hungary etc.

Then again, the LNP, Labor & IPA seem to avert their gaze from fossil fuels subsidies & our RW MSM cartel or oligopoly vs. leaving it to the market; sink or swim.
