Governments are motivated by environmental concerns, pushing oil companies to align with global climate goals.

I fear that greenwashing will give way to subsidy blackmail and making excuses for not sticking to promises. Look no further than Australia's Gorgon which was supposed to capture 80% of CO2 but struggles to achieve 30%. No probs says the govt we'll reduce the baseline under the safeguard mechanism and thanks for trying. Despite a litany of failures worldwide we now see that the Sunak govt will help several carbon capture projects under the North Sea. If they underperform it shows at least they tried.

Another furphy I suspect is green hydrogen. Oil majors probably think it's too expensive and inefficient but governments are throwing big money around. Notice that there is not a single green hydrogen project anywhere that doesn't need generous subsidies. Nonetheless green hydrogen appears in advertising. The con is use our fossil fuel product with a clear conscience since it will all be done with hydrogen one day. That day seems a long time coming.

Energy 'transitioning' is like gender transitioning: it won't work.

Hullo, the oil companies will pump as much oil as they can for as long as they can. That's how resource extraction works. And "energy transition" is not going to "save the planet" one way or the other.

The oil companies verbal commitments aren't worth the paper they're written on.

It's all about delay for as long as possible and obfuscation, for the same objective.

And governments are, I believe, in bed with them in this resolve. MSR thorium had some issues that have been dealt with by the Chinese.

And no doubt the US now seriously researching MSR thorium. will do likewise. And through them our gormless morons at the helm, will hand our energy market to them on a platter as usual.

We should be going it alone and buying the necessary expertise to build our own issue free prototype. The sooner the better and f#ck the oil/fossil fuel companies.
