Forming a community : Comments

By Dara Macdonald, published 21/6/2023

The people that form the community are the most important aspect of the endeavour and the foresight (both in philosophical and practical matters) of those that found it.

Pie in the sky thinking. All wishful thinking writ large. This may have been possible prewar, now all that is possible is no go, small and isolationist cabals. The only thing that may unite a horribly divided Australian community is a war?

It is extremely sad, but there is just no space left in this overcrowded world for good projects like this.

The bitter truth is that no state/government will allow us to live like you propose and in order to prevent divergent lifestyles they will place any obstacle they can in your way. It is not that they don't want children - they certainly do, but they only want children who will follow their indoctrination and subscribe to their way of life, who will become little cogs in their military-economic machinery, they don't want independent thinkers.

It is excess children that brought us to where we are: yes I know they are not the children of your dreams, Dara, quite the opposite, but they already fill up the world and leave no space for you. If you really want to fulfill your dream, which you indeed deserve, then for now you will need to die childless and wait for a better opportunity in a longer term future, maybe some 1000's of years hence once human population dropped significantly enough.

Yuyutsu

Yes Yuyutsu, life would be great in a Stateless society.

There have been many in human history. One right here in Australia which existed happily for maybe forty to sixty thousand years: But they were not alone either in the world of Stateless tribes, held together by a common ground.

Let’s call our choice of society a top down structured society. What a horror story of plunder of basic freedoms, it’s a dreadful mess of seething unhappiness.

Thanks for the article Dara Macdonald. I've skimmed it- but I'll probably need to read it more thoroughly- but looks very good so far. Kudos.
