Bolsonaro's well-deserved defeat could help save the Amazon rainforest, which has been ravaged under his criminal rule.

How ridiculous to think that the Brazilian election had anything to do with climate change.

Maybe, but his dropkick looney tunes extreme right-wing support hasn't gone away nor his ambition to rule! One hopes that the penny finally drops, and somebody somewhere understands that every western style economy rests solely on just two support pillars, energy and capital.

Tearing down or digging up finite resources has an end by date. But not value adding nor recycling. Both of which depend exclusively on affordable, dispatchable, reliable 24/7 energy. And that isn't any renewable but rather MSR thorium.

Yes, it's nuclear but not conventional nuclear. But walk away safe, nuclear! And where conventional nuclear can't be done for much less than 12 cents PKWH. MSR thorium, which unlike conventional nuclear operates at the ambient air pressure. This reduces build and operating cost by the power of ten or more. And the reason for the different price structures (a median of 1.98 cents PKWH) and the very reason for the odious malignant, fight for their economic life, campaign against a very much cleaner and safer (walk away safe) MSR thorium.

Affordable energy is the key to Brazil's prosperous future, not cutting down and digging up very finite resources or burning the lungs of the world!

Normal climate change is created by the big nuclear (fusion) furnace in the sky. When it waxes in a normal 200-year cycle the joint heat up! When it wanes as now and from the mid-seventies (NASA) it cools.

However, that is not what has been occurring, with heatwave on heatwave, record hot days extreme weather events, unprecedented fire storms. And one in one hundred flood events occurring every ten years or so.

Only the self-deluded or insane would claim that this then was part of a "normal" climate change as produced by the big solar furnace in the sky!

Sir Richard Bramston tells a story of where he invited a highly placed, flat earth society official to a ride in one of his low orbit rockets to see for himself the evidence. The invitation accepted the passenger glued to a porthole until the craft landed.

whereupon Sir Richard inquired, so, what do you think now. And here I paraphrase. Well, the special effects were totally believable as were the incredible graphics. And with that the FE official walked away, his beliefs (just like evidence ignoring climate denialists) unchanged.

One doesn't have to be a fruit loop, nut job, tugger, to deny climate change, but it has to help!

About those "three main areas": 1. In the Lula years, plenty of Amazon and cerrado lands were turned into farm and grazing uses. As to committing crimes with impunity, the writer obviously doesn't know Brazil. Most crimes, including murder, get little punishment and those by the rich and connected, even less. 2. If the Government cannot provide basic safety for the average working citizen in Sao Paulo and Rio, why does the writer think Lula cares about Indigenous people? 3. The global scientific community has been studying the glory/wonder of the Amazon for over 100 years. No cure for cancer yet. Understand this, the Amazon in Brazil belongs to Brazil, not some misty-eyed, virtue-filled professor in a heated, air-conditioned office in Manhattan. Also, Joe Biden hardly understands the script he is reading, so complex environment-human interactions are way beyond him. Finally, if past history is a guide, Lula will use his "power and responsibility" to fill his and his friends' pockets, and throw billions to his despot buddies in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua. I love Brazil but I dispair.
