Politicians at prayer : Comments

By Everald Compton, published 17/8/2022

Praying for guidance from a God has nothing to do with it and no Parliamentarian should ever use his or her personal religion to influence the Parliament.

The lack of rationality in Everalds stand against his own cultural interests, evinced by the subtle mention of Uluru and it’s implied priority to anything from his own ancestral past.

To elevate instead, the worship of snakes or fat Buddhas in the sky, at smoking ceremonies and official acknowledgments to the traditional ownership of Terra Australis Incognita, to the backdrop of corroboree dances, would be a wonderful replacement of the evil Western Culture.

One fact for sure Everald overlooks, is the backwardness of his thinking. Another fact of the future is, for sure there’ll be no burning of Native books, since along with their unenviable lifestyle, they had no books to burn, remaining illiterate for the thousands of years of hiding from the pressures of contest clearly won by the vast benefits of his own begrudged Western culture he so obviously despises, mainly it’s attachment to God first, then King and finally country.

the traditional ownership of Terra Australis Incognita,
diver dan,
Countless times I read & heard of indigenous people express that "no-one owns the land" yet the ownership of land is now the most pushed issue !
I fully agree with the term "traditional occupant" and, yes the indigenous all over the planet have at some stage been pushed off the lands they have occupied for generations. In most instances the conquerors have also been pushed out by the next wave of invaders. In Australia where there is no record as to who the first occupiers were, there is however ample record of conflict.
One just has to read the many legends of the first invaders of which many are based on stories of conflict. This one killed that one etc.
The many examples of rock art are a good indicator of previous cultures !

While I believe in a creator and intelligent design or as some might say a God of creation. I don't believe in organized religion or mere men speaking for God or their claims that they know his mind! Or to kill or punish in his/her name.

Simply put, faith based belief can never ever be proven. And because this is so and because there are so many all claiming to follow the one true God and making manmade rules that they claim came from him/her. And for all anyone knows none of those claims may have no foundation in truth. They can't all be true. In fact none may be true?

While I support freedom of worship it has to be a personal thing and not rammed down the throats of others as if it were a fundamental truth!

If you believe that it is so? Then prove it with irrefutable evidence! And given that is not possible, I support the Author's view.

Yes Indy, there were waves of migration with the first being the Tasmanians? And supported by oral history.

Given over 500 tongues there could have been as many waves? Certainly, the first inhabitants did not arrive all at one time 60,000 years ago!

How petty can people get! Politicians need to start doing the job they are overpaid to do instead of fussing about prayers and religion most of them don't believe in. The atheist president of the Senate is a total hypocrite wanting to ban prayer but accepting people dressed in paint and nappies poncing around in a cloud of smoke welcoming people to their own country.

In the Jewish tradition, it is forbidden to pray or study scripture in a filthy place or where foul smells are emitted.

This is why observant Jews keep secular literature, fiction and magazines, etc. in their toilets - and for many even, that particular room is normally the only place where they read secular materials.

What to speak of one of the most filthy places in Australia - if one has to pray and finds no other place, then the toilets of parliament house would be relatively the cleanest spot there!

The first verse of the first psalm says:

"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take OR SIT IN THE COMPANY OF MOCKERS"

Since members of parliament are occupied all day in mocking each other, even competing amongst them over how sharp their mockery can be, and as noted by the author, they also make a mockery of their "Our Father" prayer, blessed is the one who keeps themselves and their holy books out of there and prays elsewhere.
