The hidden victims of domestic violence : Comments

By Vanessa de Largie, published 14/6/2022

It seems that Sarah Mudge, (much like Clarke's murderous spouse) had zero issue with killing her three children.

Yes. Bettina Arndt says similar things, but nothing changes, and loud-mouthed harpies, protected by men, keep up the screeching while the cowardly, pussy-whipped men let them get away with it.

Hi Vanessa,
I liked your article and writing style, well done.
- But I think you accidentally messed up here.

"Forget the fact that approximately two-thirds of Aussie blokes are homicide victims, they are continually treated as perpetrators and I think it's about time we changed the narrative."

Yes, a sad and sorry story. That Obi won custody speaks volumes, inasmuch as it is unusual. Given most of the violent partners are males.

I hope that smoke inhalation and highly elevated CO2 levels would have meant Obi would have been unconscious or deceased before the flames consumed his mortal remains.

This whole sorry sags means we need to do much more to treat mental health and indeed ensure that the criminally insane are suitably restrained until, if ever, they are well again.

I guess what Vanessa meant to say is that two thirds of homicide victims are male, not that two-thirds of males are homicide victims. This sloppy error is symptomatic of the poor understanding or active misrepresentation of data characteristic of this article.

Yes, two thirds of homicide victims are male. But 87% of perpetrators are male. The most common pattern of homicide is men killing men. As most of these are not domestic homicides it is not very relevant to the article. Domestic homicides are the largest category of homicides, but they account for only about 40% of the total. And of these, about 60% are partner homicides.

https://www.aic.gov.au/statistics/homicide

About 75% of victims of partner homicide are female. Of the partner homicides committed by women, about half are against partners who had been abusive.

https://www.aic.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-05/sr20_female_perpetrated_intimate_partner_homicide-v2.pdf

To imply that there is a conspiracy of silence about male victims of domestic homicide is risible. The vast majority of the 3,425 victims of domestic homicide over the past 20 years also received little or no public attention, and most of these were women. It’s true that occasionally an unusual or particularly tragic case attracts public attention. But most are largely ignored because there are simply too many of them – almost one a week – to keep the media and public attention.

Likewise, to blame ” ‘misandry flavoured content’ “ (why the quotation marks, by the way?) for rising male suicides is fatuous. Both male and female suicide rates reached a post-war low in the mid 2000s and edged up to 2017 before trending down a little in recent years. Both are well below rates for most of the 20th century. So if misandry is to blame for trends in male suicides, it’s a lot less prevalent that in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s and has got better in recent years. But of course, that’s nonsense.

About the only thing I agree with in this article is that “No human being (regardless of gender) deserves silence when they are murdered”. Stanley’s case is tragic; so are the thousands of others.

Oh dear…love requited with a gallon of petrol and a box of matches.

A very very fine and indelible line lays between love and hate.

Jealousy is a curse but a belly ache is worse, says Anthony; prompted by his Mother.

This article suggests that society has determined violence is good under certain circumstances: it’s victim is easily identified then!

And… Fifty percent of society may freely use violence against a perceived enemy, but must never speak of it without the accusation of hate speech…mmm strange world!

The major cause of domestic violence is domestic economics yet no "economists" and/or "social experts" are even close at looking at the problem !
The "I'm alright Jack, stuff you" mentality of those in authority is the catalyst !
Unions have become very guilty of that after they'd been beneficial in the early days !
