China doesn't feel that it will be 'under assault' for having a huge military machine, always parading its weapons, plus cute girls in white pleated skirts with outdated rifles. Neither should Australia.

Looks like Binoy is getting worried that we may yet become too hard a target for his favored nation China, to take over by the time they are ready to do it.

I don't share the Author's views. We need to be able to defend ourselves with comparable weapons that we face! And as a repisal for invasion.

Did Ukraine expect to be invaded, did Tibet or the Wigas? Do we? A very hostile C.C.P's verbal assurances are not worth the paper they are written on.

As others have noted we need to have locally developed and built missiles pointing toward new threats to our freedom and democracy/way of life!

And we need nuclear power and nuclear weapons to ensure that is the case. Having these weapons doesn't mean you ever have to use them! Given, it would give any invader cause to pause and consider the ultimate cost! Something Russia should have done before pulling the trigger of war on the Ukraine!

I wrote about concerns about the rise of China years ago. You are still criticising the West when authoritarians nations threaten the world.

Well done on getting a job, but you really are not up to it

The thing about Binoy is he gets it so wrong. The world changes, but all binoy can do is whinge about events as if we are all stupid.

Binoy, for all of its faults, and there are many, the West is the best, forget the rest.
