The Chinese plans for the Solomon Islands must be taken seriously : Comments

By Jeffrey Wall, published 1/4/2022

Late last year we responded to a panic-driven request from the SI Prime Minister for police and defence personnel to put down civil unrest - unrest which was clear targeting the Prime Minister and his government.

The Australian government was warned about the Chinese move to the Solomons in August 2021! They didn't take it seriously then, and it is too bloody late now. The Solomons PM is serious, and is even "insulted" by weak-boy Morrison's little whine about it and his yabber about a Pacific "family".

I was just reminded of the Australians who fought and died for that ungrateful micro-country in 1942.

Eighty years later, we might have to fight against it - if China doesn't subdue us first.

The answer is and has been for the S.I. P.M. to wind up the current government and bring on a free, fair and U.N. monitored, transparent election!

The requested Chinese involvement? Nothing less than the shoring up of an extremely autocratic demonstrably unpopular leaders position! Who suddenly understands he will be little more than a trained lap dog in his own S.I., reduced to rolling over and begging for a tummy rub from his new masters?

Can't think of a single reason to support his request for our involvement, until and unless it is as blue helmet election monitors

Bet you laughed your head off Indi, when our troops went into East Timor wearing blue helmets and as free and fair election monitors. But hey that was John Howard and when he showed some backbone.

And that is what is required in S.I., not pandering to the whims of its current elected dictator. Unless you want Vietnam all over again and thousands coming here in leaky boats seeking asylum. Once the Chinese are installed there for the sum of forty pieces of alligorical silver?

Alan B,
You're confusing me by putting the UN in the same sentence as the word fair. The benefit vs the effort & outlays for the UN is a well-known gross disproportion unless of course you're referring to the benefits to those running the UN.
