The Solomons engagement has turned into a huge negative for Australia : Comments

By Jeffrey Wall, published 7/1/2022

The Australian Government needs to have an urgent and searching look at its strategy in our region – not just to counter China but also rebuild our influence and credibility.

"Jeffrey Wall CSM CBE is a Brisbane Political Consultant".

It seems that the Morrison government is not consulting Jeffery, who is always painting a grim picture about our interaction with the region and the rising PRC influence. If China is loaning to the SI personnel with knowledge of how to suppress dissent, that’s a big worry. Is the Department of Foreign Affairs "incompetent"? Should Foreign Minister, Marise Payne, be called out on matters such as this?

We hear a lot of this stuff from Jeffery Wall. What we need is some answers and professional comments on his ongoing criticism of what he sees as the serious shortcomings of the Australian government in relation to our security and that of the region.

The Poms did a magnificent job in the Solomons. At independence it was a thriving, well governed country. We didn't do a bad job in PNG either, but the Solomons were really good.

Now, as with PNG the place is falling apart, just as did South Africa & Rhodesia before them.

It takes centuries to develop stable self governing countries. If the much maligned white man leaves too early, as has been forced in so many places, the collapse is inevitable, driven by rife nepotism & corruption.

Time to get out of the way. Let China step in & rule with their iron fist, after all this was the way of the locals before European intervention. The hate generated by these methods will see us welcomed back soon enough, if we are in any position to do much for anyone any time in the future.

I wonder if the author thinks the Government of Kazakhstan was justified in calling in the Russians ?

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/1/6/violence-in-largest-kazakh-city-after-moscow-led-troops-arrive

and in this case, seems the author is thinking "China man bad... Australia man good" ?

If a government has lost the will of the people, I don't really have an objection to them bring rolled by violence for that incompetence, ah la SI, Kazakhstan or Australia for that matter. The Government should ALWAYS be fearful of the people, not the other way around. We should NEVER have gone

Does Jeffery Wall actually know what's going on in PNG or was he just there ? Thousands of Australian bureaucrats have been to PNG & then went back to Australia & now look at the state of both Nations !

He 'used to' advise a PNG politician. He is in Brisbane according to his blurb.
