Reducing US greenhouse emissions 50 per cent by 2030: is it likely? : Comments

As it stands, the US only reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 2 per cent from 1990 to 2019.

I think the West could be sleepwalking its way into energy shortages. Wind and solar appear cheap at times but have integration costs that are downplayed. Those costs include new transmission, subsidies, frequency correction and firming by increasingly expensive gas. Hydrogen is an energy loser and batteries are expensive and of limited duration.

The green dream lives on however. Some nuclear power plants in the US northwest have been closed thinking the power would be replaced by Canadian hydro. When it came to building the new power lines the penny dropped that forests would have to be razed. In New York state new gas plants replace shut down nuclear. I think the Biden plan is facing a tough reality check before his term expires.

Until such time as we, Homo Sapiens, reduce numbers and achieve a sustainable population level, by whatever means necessary, no change in the current situation is going to happen.
As this requires us to drastically STOP over populating and destroying our ONLY fragile home planet the future does not look great.

Why not ask; will we still have motor racing & other frivolous fume-spewing "sport" by 2030 ?

ateday,
Totally right, suspend all money to countries that fail to feed their people & send sterilisation equipment instead to start ending the suffering & make them work together for a common good !

Highly unlikely Chris. By then the cooling planet caused by the quietening sun will have proved that CO2 has so little to do with climate that the scam will have fallen apart.

The elites will still be trying to reduce the living standards of us peasants, but will have been forced to develop a new scare tactic to do it.

I didn't realise that you were a true believer.
