Westminster confusion in South Australia : Comments

By Scott Prasser, published 24/11/2021

The duty of the premier in these circumstances as the chief adviser to the governor is to inform the incumbent of Parliament's decision and in line with Westminster conventions, that Chapman's commission as minister be withdrawn.

Stiff cheese, Scott.

South Australians have bigger interests and concerns than Labor political stunts. If the Opposition can't replace the inept Marshall government by addressing matters that voters do care about (things that actually affect them), then they are no good either.

Surely it is now for the governor to exercise his reserve powers and
dismiss the minister.

The governor is woman, who was only just sworn in at the time this nonsense broke out; she can act only on the advice of the premier, and he is sticking by Vicki Chapman. The Ombudsman is now looking in to it, but he can only report and make recommendations that nobody has to abide by. The whole thing is a waste of time and money.

Not right, GG Kerr dismissed the Prime Minister.
That is why in the Westminster system no one is immune from having
their commission withdrawn. G or GG must ask another member of
parliament, Can you form a government ?

It points up the flaw in the Republican system, a party member, or a
group member have to try and get a vote.
The governor is required to be none party.

"The governor takes advice from the executive council and me as the premier and I won't be issuing any advice to remove Vickie Chapman."

If you think you know better than the SA Premier, perhaps you should move to SA, get yourself elected then try to get the top job. Marshall is a dill, but he is not as ignorant of the law as you think he is.

What twaddle!

The premiere does not have to consult the GG to dismiss a cabinet member.
