The great Australian defence strategy delusion : Comments

By Murray Hunter, published 4/11/2021

The government should be concerned about the protection of Australia rather than playing the role as a middle power.

France and little boy Macron need to get over themselves; and the likes of Malcolm Turnbull, short of shutting his mouth, as well as the Australian media, should start taking their own country's side overseas.

And to Hell with what Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore think about AUKUS. Never mind neo-Communist New Zealand!

Since when did this bloke come to know anything about AUKUS, submarines and defence, anyway

I was delighted this morning to see one commentator declare that Morrison had every right to defend himself against the "little French weasel" and that he should "expel that highly undiplomatic French ambassador"

He also noted Turnbull "openly and viciously taking Macron's side".

Not so pleasing was Prince Charles's blatant rudeness to Morrison when the latter tried to explain what Australian was doing - why he would want to explain anything to the political prince is anyone's guess; but he did, and the disdain on the royal face was plain.

Morrison overdid the big friendly dog bit, but there was no call for HRH to be a pig.

Correct to a point, Murray. And that nuclear-powered subs need nuclear armaments to be a nuclear deterrent! And God forbid there's ever a reason to use them ever! Agree we need to transition to nuclear power also! As for a local arms race? Why? Seriously, are we perceived by any nation as a threat to them and their security!? And if so? A very long bow indeed or plain vexatious mischief!

Did we not put our young people in harm's way when Malaysia was threatened by the CT menace! We have always played the role of the good neighbour in our region regardless of sabre-rattling domestic politics by one or two power consumed individuals!

As for Britain replacing NZ as an ally? Well, an anti-nuclear kowtowing NZ has become far less reliable or capable! And as a military power? Little more than a joke that would last about five minutes on their own!

The summer holidays are gonna be great this year, but spare a sec every now and then to identify potential ambush spots and gun emplacement positions in case we’re invaded by members of the world island in the future.

Oh, I get it. Murray Hunter's worldview is to always look at what is happening with Australia, and then reflexively put a negative spin on it. I suppose he thinks that this makes him look smart.

Yoo hoo, Murray. I know you hate Australia and Australians, but Australia is not the villain here, it is Fascist China. Its a good thing you were not in Britain in 1939, or you would be sticking up for Nazi Germany, and bagging the idea that Britain and it's allies should do more and spend more to defend themselves.

If nuclear submarines are so useless, then why has Nazi China been upset about Australia obtaining them? Obviously the Chinese Nazis know that they will be a serious weapons system, and a real threat to their supply lines if they are stupid enough to start a war. How about criticising China's endless naval build up instead of hurling brickbats at your own country? No, that might smack of patriotism, and to professors like yourself, that is anathema.

The problem the Chinese Nazis have, is that China is now the A-hole of the whole world. Everybody who's brain is not debilitated by being a university professor is getting the correct idea that China is becoming aggressive, expansionist, and intimidating. The whole world is coming together on this, Europe, Vietnam, Japan, the US, Canada, and India, and that is what is making the Chinese Nazis sheet blue bricks. Everybody, that is, except university professors, humanities students, and The Greens (all the same thing anyway, I suppose.)

I could not care a tinkers cuss whether those SE Asian nations cowed by China think Australia obtain nuclear subs or not. But in any case, I will bet that the intelligent and patriotic members of those countries are dancing with joy about it. All of them are sick of being bullied by China, and they are probably happy that the whole world is now ganging up on your Nazi friends.

Try getting on the right side for a change, Murray.

The french cannot complain, given the way the projected cost had ballooned and the contract had endlessly been delayed?

It was always bait and change?

That said, the cancellation could have been forwarned and handled better diplomatically and less bombastically/abruptly?

I think some of the damage could be undone, if we bought some industrial machines (90 billions worth) to boost local manufacture! And money well spent if automated and robotised! And needs must cover a very broad spectrum of all branches of manufacture! Even if in deployment we need guest labour to demonstrate the proper use!

As for Morrison's honesty!? Well, he is an Ozzie pollie, isn't he! And his lips do move, as they say?
