By Calum Rosie, published 23/4/2021

Over 500,000 civilians have been murdered and many more imprisoned and tortured by the Indonesian government in what's being called a 'silent genocide'.

> The motive of colonialism was the primary accumulation of wealth in order to fuel empires and industrial endeavours, and it's what the wealth of many Western countries is still built on to this day.

This is just wrong, and obviously has the cause and effect backwards. In order to engage in colonialism, one had to already be wealthy and powerful, and typically more wealth went to the satellites than was drawn from them. The motivation was similar to neo-cons: "our way of life is the best, and people deserve to live under our way of life, hence we will impose it on you".

Not saying it wasn't bad, but you can only be surprised nothing has changed if you have your understanding of human nature and history wrong.

I'm not even sure the West Pupuans are the West Papuans anymore.
Hasn't the Indonesian government sent in that many foreigners (immigrants) that the West Pupuans themselves are just a minority now?
- Democratically speaking of course.

Just like Australians are a minority in Australia now,
- As compared to the 'multicultural' pro-immigrant idea of who we are,
- As opposed to the 'true blue' Australia I grew up in 30- 40 years ago.

Same goes for for every nation under this pro-immigrant global agenda.
- And who pushes it?
- The same people your complaining about are USING YOU and your support of immigrants to take everything from everyone the whole world over.

If you want to control a new government;
- Then what you do is change the people to ones that are going to support you.

You push a pro-immigrant agenda and then you turn every democracy on the planet into a two horse race where one side supports the traditional people and the other side supports immigrants.

Then what you have - your "democracy" -
Becomes one where the actual people who lived there don't have any real say in things at all
- People try to be toleratnt of other cultures but also afraid to say what they think for fear of themselves being labeled racists or bigots
- You know were not allowed to talk about African gangs, or Islamic extremism. that's wrong under this new twisted logic

- And what we get is 'International democracy' being imposed upon sovereign nation states.

What is exactly what big business 'multinationals' want so they can keep on exploiting.

Do you think the US military machine isn't spread all over the globe and that doesn't use its ground penetrating radar capabilities to look for resources to exploit?

Why do you think they guard pipelines and poppy fields?
You think they aren't stealing other nations resources?

This notion that colonialism was somehow something that popped-up out of Western Europe half a millennium ago is just so ignorant. Colonialism as old as civilisation itself. It was practised by the old Middle Eastern empires, by the Greeks (who colonised vast tracts and founded cities that exist today like Istanbul and Marseilles), by the Phoneticians and Romans, by China which in reality is just an empire where the conquers replaced the conquered. It was practised by the Aztec and the Incas, by the Mongols and the Islamic tribes.

Its always been part of the human existence and its only the rise of western liberal values which has seen it as something to avoid. When those values pass, colonialism will reappear.

SilverinCanberra is right in that most recent research shows that, economically, colonialism was better for the colonised than the coloniser.

But its all part of this new mythology, that all things bad in the world were caused by the western powers and capitalism. Those ideologies which, in the 20th century, killed up to 200 million people are ignored or given a pass.

To think this way requires a complete lack of historic understanding and/or knowledge. Its the same type of thinking that sees slavery as a unique problem of the west and the USA in particular.

Its bonkers. But its the new thinking and its what the young are being taught (more exactly indoctrinated) into thinking

Isn't it ridiculous how those who have & are benefitting the most from Capitalism are the loudest critics ?
What they don't comprehend is that their own efforts & competence wouldn't let them survive for more than three weeks. They are parasites of Capitalism but denounce Capitalism. Talk about stupid !
