A power-drunk and fear-mongering state premier strikes again. At no cost to herself, of course, nor to dubiously qualified public servants advising her who have probably had a pay rise and bonuses to thank them for rooting the economy and people's freedoms.

Between March and September of last year, lockdowns forced 607,000 private sector workers out of their jobs, but 19,700 new public servants were hired over the same period. This means that 30 private sector workers lost their job for each new public servant hired. Nothing has changed this year; although there are probably not enough jobs left to replicate those figures.

Australian politicians have slipped so easily into totalitarian 'fear is the key' style of rule (representation no longer exists), and it works. Too many people in Australia like to be told what to do.

They need to know that, once powers are yielded to the state in moments of crisis or emergency, it is very rarely the case that the state hands them back.

The author scraped safely past concerns that really matter in a survival sense viz:

I have never been able to understand why anyone would go to Byron Bay. It is definitely one of the least attractive bits of the NSW north coast, & the few times I have walked it's streets, the feeling was far from welcoming.

Perhaps it has a good surf brake, I wouldn't know, it is many years since I went surfing, but it would have to be very good to make the place worth visiting.

I feel the same way as you about Byron. Whenever
I've visited the place I could not see the attraction.
There are much more beautiful areas as you point out.
However, my elder brother lives in Byron and has done
so for decades. He loves it there. His wife is a
writer and loves the area and the creativity she finds
there. It seems like a very laid-back life style.
Their home is close to the beach and quite
comfortable. They go walking every morning. So I
guess it is a healthy life-style.
