Why not evil? : Comments

By Peter Sellick, published 18/3/2021

We don't have to buy into a Manichean division of the world into good and evil or the existence of the devil to have a sensible discussion of the existence and origin of evil.

Revelation 9:12
The first horror is over; after this there are still two more horrors to come.

Succinct maybe?

And.

Genesis 19:25.
The story of the destruction of Sodom and Gemorrah by volcano, was attributed to the hand of God as retribution.

Quite frankly, our future is infinitely tied in to China, escape from the trap we were knowingly thrown into by self serving politicians, can only be apocalyptic in outcome.

But the house prices are going gang busters in spite it all, so worry not!

Individual.

Interesting concept. But I would wonder on which side sits the evil; and judged by what standard?

The central question is How do we account for the coexistence of good and evil?

Isn't this what world religions attempt to explain and provide a system that can control the balance between good and evil?

And today we depend on secular rational systems of law and social control to maintain order, keeping evil in check in a world that can never be controlled by good.

Mr opinion says:(in part).

“And today we depend on secular rational systems of law and social control to maintain order, keeping evil in check in a world that can never be controlled by good”

Part one.

“And today we depend on secular rational systems of law and social control to maintain order,”

Well yes we do, however, the modern secularism is chaotic to say the least. But is it anymore or less law abiding?

AND
Part two:

“keeping evil in check in a world that can never be controlled by good”

That has a ring of the negative to it.

Rule by goodness is preferable to rule by dishonesty. Goodness also has an end result of fair outcomes, which does not impede fair justice.

If you listen to Pinker, the modern world is more peaceful than its ancestor rule by the church. Certainly more peaceful than the Medieval world.

During that time, women outnumbered men by four to one in Europe. The result of barbaric wars fought on a continuum of endless time.

Do you think we are a more civilised society without Church control. (Excluding Muslims of course, who remain under a religious yoke)?

diver dan,

You said that in the Medieval times "women outnumbered men by four to one in Europe."

Wouldn't the LNP pollies like that: an absolute smorgasbord for all those deviant dick swingers in the LNP.

"Look mates, it's raining Women! Let's get 'em!"
