By Binoy Kampmark, published 19/11/2020

One dogma that is likely to persist in US foreign policy during a Biden presidency will be the sanctions regime adopted towards Iran.

I thought only gypsies had crystal balls Binroy? Who knows what the return of sanity will usher in? Suggest you wait and see before reporting the news!

When it comes to foreign policy, Biden's voting history clearly reveals him to be extremely hawkish. He is no dove. His top campaign donors are million dollar shareholders in Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, so you can be sure the American war drums will continue beating strongly. I agree with Binoy, Biden is unlikely to lift sanctions on Iran, or for that matter on Russia, China, North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba or the many other countries whom the US has deemed fit to embargo. He might be less of a loose cannon than Trump, but Biden is no peace-maker. He will continue to make sure the US has plenty of enemies and Iran will remain right up there near the top of the list.

London to a bridge, Joe Biden will continue the, honour bound, Obama approach and agreement! No question in my mind. And not helpful, Binroy, with your combative partisan suggestion, he might not! But then this is, I believe, how you operate in this area? To stir up indignation and resentment ahead of the fact and outcome? And to hell with my subsequent collateral damage?

There was clear evidence that the Iran nuclear agreement wasn't working and had some serious flaws.

Iran has one working nuclear reactor and soon will be able to harvest the plutonium to build a nuke, with Iran not being a signatory to the NPT there is little to stop them even with the treaty agreement.

Secondly, Iran has used the lifting of sanctions to engage in hostile actions in Syria and Lebanon free of the threat of sanctions from the EU and US until Trump scrapped the agreement and still uses its presence in Syria to launch guerilla attacks against Israel.

I don't think Biden is stupid enough to unleash Iran again.
