Dean Jones: life of a cricketing entertainer : Comments
By Binoy Kampmark, published 29/9/2020He was very much one of those cricketers who made the pulse race, a figure for the advocates of a faster variant of the game. Nothing of the solid blocker in the man, though he could, if needed, linger at the crease.

Why does a 59 year old die when the average life span for males is 81 years? Of a heart attack, of all things, when medical science has advanced to the stage where heart attack deaths are nowhere as frequent as they once were?
Lifestyle. Cricketers of Jones's generation were hard livers; big drinkers. Good cricketer. Good bloke. Too young to die, and loved by those he left behind. But there it is, and there is always a reason. Posted by ttbn, Tuesday, 29 September 2020 9:53:55 AM

A legend! The most entertaining, courage personified, player and ahead of his time. That innings in India is one that few could forget or the sheer guts on display, that was all that made that double century in that heat, possible!
He is gone way to early! And many will miss him, his Authentic style both on the field and in the com-box. Well done Deano and may you rest in peace. And perhaps enjoy a few games in heaven where they say cricket is they game they play up there? Alan B. Posted by Alan B., Tuesday, 29 September 2020 10:51:08 AM

Dean Jones was a very entertaining cricketer, who brought pleasure to a great many people. If that's your legacy you leave behind then it was truly a life fulfilled. Why at 59? There is no answer to that.

<<Why does a 59 year old die when the average life span for males is 81 years? Of a heart attack, of all things, when medical science has advanced to the stage where heart attack deaths are nowhere as frequent as they once were?>> There is an answer to this penetrating question, but the secular world doesn't want to admit it. The apostle Paul addressed the idolaters on the Athenian Areopagus who worshipped 'an unknown god'. To them he proclaimed: "He is the God who made the world. He also made everything in it. He is the Lord of heaven and earth. He doesn’t live in temples built by human hands. 25 He is not served by human hands. He doesn’t need anything. Instead, he himself gives life and breath to all people. He also gives them everything else they have. From one man he made all the people of the world. Now they live all over the earth. He decided exactly when they should live. And he decided exactly where they should live. 27 God did this so that people would seek him. And perhaps they would reach out for him and find him. They would find him even though he is not far from any of us. 'In him we live and move and exist.’ As some of your own poets have also said, ‘We are his children'" (Acts 17:24-28), http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts+17%3A24-28&version=NIRV It is God who gives life and breath and He determines when death happens. My own Christian father died suddenly at age 57 from a massive heart attack. He was ready to meet his Master. Posted by OzSpen, Tuesday, 29 September 2020 9:08:06 PM

Saddened to hear of the death of HELLEN REDDY at the age of 78. Her song 'I Am Woman' was an anthem for millions of women all over the world in the 1970's as they struggled for recognition and equality.
