Dumping on South Australia's First Nations : Comments

By Jim Green and Michele Madigan, published 14/2/2020

Shamefully, the federal government has decided to move ahead despite the unanimous opposition of the Barngarla Traditional Owners, native title holders over the area.

Landowners with freehold title can sell the land for whatever purpose they wish. If say the farmer wanted to sell the land for a go-kart track it would be bizarre if outside people could veto it by claiming a tenuous but undocumented connection to ancestral land use 200 or more years ago. I suggest nuclear opponents possibly not of aboriginal descent are in a snit because they didn't have the sway they had over the Muckaty and Hawker groups, both of whom coincidentally used the term 'sickness country'.

I think central Eyre Peninsula is a good choice for a couple of reasons. The limit for wheat farming (Goyders Line) is retreating and they need new industry. Secondly if Australia ever gets high level nuclear waste it will have to be in the Woomera Prohibited Area. Kimba present a beeline to the WPA. Ironically the casks at Lucas Heights near Sydney seem to raise less concern than when relocated to Eyre Peninsula. All in all it's a good move.

Why pickout just Barngarla Traditional Owners, whom most of us in South Australia have never even heard of? If ever there was a good place for a waste nuclear depository, it is Kimba, its only claim to fame being the Big Galah.

There are probably a lot of "shameful" things the limp-wristed Marshall government has done, but deciding to establish a nuclear storage facility in one of the most forlorn, unattractive places in the state is not one of them.

Not a single Bungarian voted for it? There are no figures on that. Greeny Green doesn't present any. The Bungarians held their own poll, reportedly. The Leftist Broadcasting Corporation reports that 60% of locals voted FOR the establishment of the facility. In a democracy, that's good enough for a go-ahead. The population of Kimba, like that of many country towns, is falling. Like all country towns, It needs all the help it can get.

The less than impressive SA government must ignore the politics of race and do what is right for Kimba, the state and the country. There would not be a better place anywhere in the country to store nuclear waste. The objectors, aka, original owners, are not making any contribution to our well being and prosperity.

I tire of this anti-nuclear activism by folk who impose their BS humbug views on alleged traditional owners and jerk their strings to get an imposed from the outside outcome!?

If any of these BSing humbuging anti-nuclear zealots were genuinely concerned for the welfare of first Australians?

They would propose we erect/build serval waste burning MSR's and reduce the half-life of all nuclear waste to just 300 years, and a thoroughly sanitised product, eminently suitable as long-life space batteries.

Batteries that power the satellites that allow folk in our outback to take and receive phone calls and or watch Friday night footy, etc.

Time for these activists to stop dumping their idiotic, anti-nuclear, ideological, imperatives on our first people and in this action deprive them of the annual millions they could very safely earn, risk-free, from leased back to government, native title land

Could be conditional on the building of the proposed waste burning technology and the permanent high tech training facilities and high tech jobs that'd be a permanent feature of allowing sanity, rather than BS and anti-nuclear humbug to decide outcomes!

Where's the money coming from to build these unconventional, unpressurised Molten salt, nuclear waste burning reactors? (MSR)

Well, if we are but intelligently led by genuine leaders, we could earn annual billions from a proposed nuclear waste dump!

And before final burial burn out of it the huge remaining unspent energy and if done as proposed power this nation with the world's cheapest power in complete walk-away safety.

Time we stood up on our hind legs and demanded we stopped being continually ripped off by the power authorities and their acquiescent pollies! Time we had a power source that'd all but force manufacturing to restart and or relocate here!

Incidentally. smelting recycled metal consumes significantly less energy than making it from the ore!

And produce a final and energy depleted product that is then eminently suitable as long -life space batteries, that burn up with reentry.

Of all the methods we have of generating electricity nuclear power as gigawatts generated has a lower death toll record than even renewables.

Go to Facebook and Alan Goulding's page for evidence and graphs presented in an interesting informative video.

And take in the three others if you choose on, four minutes on thorium, the afterlife and a music video by an astonishing 80 something singer. Enjoy!

SA has the highest unemployment and the most expensive electricity of any state. It gets nearly 50% of its electricity from gas fields that have been exploited for half a century and may not have a lot more to give. It is also radio-isotope central with Olympic Dam the world's biggest uranium deposit and Maralinga and Emu which had A-bomb tests. If anywhere in the world can store radioactive waste it is SA. Successive premiers seem unable to grasp this so perhaps the antis have won.
