Understanding the Greta Effect : Comments

By Mal Fletcher, published 2/10/2019

The Greta Thunberg effect is, like most large-scale movements, partly a result of the right person and the right cause converging at the right time.

One can and does understand the so-called, Greta effect!

But not the Mal effect that seeks to put this young person under some analytical microscope!

As a perceived instrument with which to dismiss or minimise her claims and concerns!

Seeks to set her and generation Elder in two different camps when only about 4% of us are vociferous climate denialists!

Air sovereign risks concerns pertaining to taking timely and adequate action while typically, adroitly ignoring the much higher and very real cost (exponentially rising) of not doing anything or very much!

Some attention has been focused on the fact she has asbergergers?

So also did Einstien and dozens of contemporary geniuses throughout the length a breadth of recorded history!

Time to stop observing the young lady as if she were some interesting specimen or a goldfish in a bowl and start advocating for/listening to and acting on the message she so ably presents with regard to her and her generation's future!

It's not as if there were plenty we couldn't do if we wanted/were permitted to!

Or that any of them would harm either the threatened enviroment or a tanking economy! But very much the exact opposite, if we the people reclaim our heritage, then with the help of cooperative capitalism and endless social credit! get what needs to be done, done even as a few old demented troglodytes raise the roof with their vociferous if quite insane Unka McDuck objections!

And sob, with unmitigated rage, as they realise a lifetime's ambition to become the richest cadaver in the graveyard!? Has been curtailed and or, circumvented!

Only those with not much between the ears could pay any attention to the ranting of a still wet behind the ears school child, who can "SEE" CO2 for gods sake.

There's nothing to understand about hype. Just look at the protesters in Hong Kong. Climate change is the last thing on their mind.

Apparently the 16 year old climate activist is mentally
ill, not cheerful enough, and being manipulated by her
parents. So say her critics.

Lets look at the facts:

On September 23rd Greta Thunberg - a 16 year old climate
activist and contender for the Nobel Prize spoke at the
UN Summit where in a stinging speech she exhorted officials
to do something about climate change.

It was the kind of speech that is perhaps destined to go
down in history among other calls to action.

She is also correct.

The world might not look like a scene from Mad Max where
we are, but that does not mean climate change is not already
devastating people around the globe. And yet for some strange
reason a young woman pointing out unpleasant truths and
asking officials to step up and take steps to save our
planet is exceptionally triggering to largely older white
men on the right.

And boy - are they flailing in their attempts to respond.

"This is child abuse. Greta is being cruelly manipulated by
her parents. She's mentally ill. She's a brat..." And so on.

In the meantime she has rallied millions around the globe.
And influenced the political landscapes in Austria, Germany,
and Europe.

Bravo!

The Greta effect is just that an effect. Its Hype, Marketing, Self-promotion of an idea (which still remains a theory now as it was when first proposed by Plass back in 1956). It may give you an elitist, warm feeling to be led by the " Jesus-like" Reincarnation (yes ...CNN prime time host 2 weeks ago). Climate change cultism is just that, its no more than a smoke and mirrors scheme, a Ponsey scheme for some, and the best modern-day example of the "Emperors New Suite of Clothes". Love this stuff if you must, but rather than falling for hype, spend some time reading the science (not IPCC reports and climate models predictions).Climate models are still simple tools, attempting to model a theory, but the IPCC et al present them as "fact producing machines", which they are not. That's hard work, so most will fall back onto the story they want to here... Man is bad, Mother Earth is good, Gai will kill us all in the end... whatever, a they say these days! The Nobel circus has given peace medals to some of he world's 'best' terrorists, a President-elect before he was elected... so why not a child puppet who climate change cultists and the media adore!

Hear, hear and well said Foxy! More power to your pen!

Those troglodytes unable to comprehend real science and able to get their airheads out of whatever warm and comfortable position they have placed them, (probably some south of the lumbar-sacral junction? And so far up to be almost irretrievable? And I know you know what I mean.

They may finally be able to straighten up and observe the incontrovertible evidence of manmade climate change and given, as rich fat old farts, responsible for the overwhelming bulk of it in the greed is good, I'm all right Jack, paradigms?

And as they only represent some 4% of us, their views and vociferous opposition and pernicious propaganda can just be ignored as the sane middle just elbow them and their pomposity and phony concerns out of the way! And when we're done, have a better more robust economy as part of a sane solution, even if that requires more equitability and a new generation better off and more prosperous than those who preceded them!

There's absolutely nothing to fear economically in addressing climate change!

Just the very opposite for the sane 96% of us that now understand we did it and we can undo most of it!

Sadly, we can't save all of it! But a lot more than the doomsayers predict! But only if we act now and with urgent alacrity!

Cause as Forrest Gump would have put it? Stupid is as stupid does!
