In addition to Victoria, most Australian states and territories are reviewing their vilification laws, in the belief current protections are inadequate and require ‘modernising.’

God all mighty! at school in the 40a & 50s we were taught to recite, "sticks & stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me".

What the hell is wrong with the petals of today that they can't stand a bit of criticism from others. About time we told them to toughen the hell up, rather than wrap them in cotton wool laws.

The Leftists are not trying to protect minorities whom they are just using as a useful tool; they are just attempting to curtail freedom of speech and control Australians. They already have control of the minorities who think that the Left loves them.

Dear Hassie,

At school some people also sang the ditty:

"Aussie, Aussie, born and bred
Long in the legs
And thick in the head!"

Words do hurt. That's how you stick the knife in
without leaving a telling gash - do it with
words. The scar will be that much deeper.

Foxy,

OH, pe-lease.
Just drop it, your petty pandering to the nancys and neuters, is just boring.
We've all heard it all before.
We don't care.
I'm sick of having to read about guys becoming jelly brains because dreamers like you and others expect boys/men to suddenly become all wussy and re-arrange our selves to suite a very twisted and sick minority such as yourselves.
We are MEN, we grew up getting the sh!t kicked out of us and got on with our lives.
Back in the fifty's and later, life was a bit tougher, both at home and at school.
You didn't see us cry "mummy", because we would cop an even bigger hiding the next day.
Now you and the rest of jelly land might find that alien to your sensitive little minds, but that is the way we grow and become better for it.
You learn to think in objectivity, not subjectivity.
You learn to reject the petty, piss-ant things in life, of which this is certainly high on the list.
It's your kind of corrosive attitude that will be the undoing of anyone who dares to even consider your advice.
Your beliefs belong in a children's fantasy story book, where everything and everyone is sweet and kind and do nothing but smile all the time and tell each other how wonderful they are, because anyone in such a situation must have an inferiority complex, which plays right into your agenda, as it appears you have more than a fair share of a superiority complex.

Just to add, YOU might have found the taunts you describe, as "words do hurt", and the crap about scars and so on.
Just because you felt that way only shows how pathetic and out of step with the culture of the day you were, and still are.
So stop presuming that everyone else is as pathetic as you, you are insulting the rest of society, making blanket statements like that.
You have no right or authority to presume such a station, either here on OLO, or anywhere else for that matter.
So pack it in, give it a rest.
If you don't have actual and especially new or controversial comments, don't bother, because your repetition is not only anti OLO rules, it's downright demeaning and annoying.
