Paid for!? By who and to who!? You!?

One can see the ideological imperative of a green activist writ large in this article?

Seems to think all his issues can be sorted with thou shall not, rules and regulations? Rules and regulations mean SFA when the people of Ethiopia were starving as a consequence of the ravages of worse drought piling up against worse drought!

They as a collection of hand to mouth, rural villages survived for as long as possible by deforesting their landscape as every beast that ran, crawled, flew or swam became an essential part of the food chain! Northern forests disappeared as they became firewood for fires or lumber for essential survival cash!

It couldn't happen here, could it!?

After all, we have rules and regulations to prevent overfishing unless you're an indigenous landholder with traditional rights!

Forests are protected except when wildfires rage/destroy everything in their path! And as always natural disasters have no respect for rules, regulations or the ideological imperatives of asinine activists!

We have laws that govern how much water may be removed from the natural enviroment! And water barons who must be paid when folks who have no claim, extract it! That's worked well, hasn't it!?

Yes without the enviroment there's no economy!

Conversely, without a supporting and robust economy, the enviroment can as it's doing now, go to hell in a handbasket!

Wars will be fought over diminishing potable water and arable land!

Already somewhere around sixty million and rising, people are being drought displaced and forced into hell hole refugee camps!

All the above our probable future as we stagger resolutely toward becoming a debt-laden banana republic with a significantly increased, out of control crime rate, self-made gated prisons for the shrinking cohort of the better off and no go ghettos where the crime rates sour daily!

We have too many humans and at least two-thirds of them have to go to protect the enviroment and ecology! Always providing they are never ever included in the demographic to be eliminated or annihilated! TBC

Dear ateday,

A lot of people on OLO do not care what happens to the environment. They believe that God gave mankind dominion over the Earth and all living things and they treat it accordingly and do not care what damage they do.

A lion doesn't lose any sleep over the opinion of a sheep! And this article is written by a follower not a leader with workable and doable ideas.

If we are to resolves issues, it can not be with imposed by control freaks, rules and regulations!

But by enthusiastic cooperation by folk all with skin in the game!

What we need to fix what's patently broken is willing cooperation not ever more rules and regulations.

We need to finally at long-suffering last to embrace and deploy nuclear energy! As MSR thorium and use this discarded but successfully tested and tried technology, to burn the worlds total stockpile of nuclear waste and in the process liberate vast virtually free energy. And a part of the payoff, reduce the half-life to just 300 years.

Use it to resuscitate our manufacturing sector and desalinate water.
Again with new more affordable technology, i.e., deionisation dialysis desalination, which for starters, produces four times as much desalinated water for the same energy input, as reverse osmosis!

And as cost-effective new water, drought-proof the land and turn deserts into productive gardens!

Instead of burning our forests plant new ones on reclaimed and reforested deserts/arid wasteland. And can be endlessly sustainable cabinet timber/fruit and nut orchards!? A tree is a tree!

Instead of burning firewood, let's instead convert every family's biological waste to storable methane via a closed cycle system and store it in simple bladers. And enough if the locally invented two-tank system is deployed, to power every family's domicile 24/7 Cooking, lighting and endless free hot water.

If the traditional diesel is replaced with ceramic fuel cells, then there becomes a 50% salable surplus, that could be compressed to run any conventional vehicle or farm tractor and what have you.

If you want to look after the environment?

You need to water it and one of the byproducts of the above, is trillions of litres of plant-friendly, nutrient-loaded, reusable water, the other is carbon-rich soil improver!

But unavailable, given that would require two seriously missing elements!

Basic commonsense and the AWOL political will!

Many of the solutions proffered by this Author are like Singaporian car usage, limited to and exclusively for the well-heeled! And consequently, limits his solutions, typically to just the more prosperous 4o%!?

Public transport is all well and fine except when it becomes the province of gangs, criminals and drunkards etc. That can and do make commuting hell on wheels for Joe average and seriously impractical for the great unwashed!.

What's really missing here is empathy and compassion and as such, typical of your average anti-nuclear, green activist?

And with genuine empathy and compassion at the highest political level not merely masqueraded!?

Then the impossible becomes the reality and a hopelessly divided nation at cross purposes is united and cooperating in the common cause!

What we have instead are a motley collection of control freaks all in the blame-shifting contest of their lives, for the crumbs of defeat!

Little wonder we've gone from the third wealthiest nation on the planet and a creditor one at that to one mired in record domestic and foreign debt and going backwards at a rate of economic knots!

And as icing on that particular, political cake, we are the most over-governed country in the world bar one, as the political class put their particular issues first and foremost as their overwhelming, first-order priority and to hell with the national interest, the economy or the environment!?
