Not sure whether I agree with the Author's premise of the social democrats leaping or slipping to the right. I agree with a policy that reserves social welfare for the citizens and not recent economic migrants! And in so enacting such a policy, takes sugar off of the table.

Some folk seem to be able to find a small fortune to migrate to transit countries where their security is effectively assured along with their human rights, but still want to go further to countries with generous social welfare.

Moreover once ensconced, much of what they receive as generous social welfare can be sent to whence they came to fund another cohort of similar arrivals.

We need to get smart with these Economic migrants and do what we must to keep where they are and helping to address the reasons, all of them, why they want to leave! And that means changing the way foreign aid is delivered, to instead of cash, is instead, sent as (carbon-free) MSR power plants and deionisation dialysis desalination.

To put affordable power and affordable potable water where it is needed and cheap enough to also provide irrigation for broad scale agriculture, even in the aridest regions on earth.

And not as a hypothetical but tried and not found wanting modern technology!

Moreover, as our continuing generosity alters the economic circumstances on the ground for the better, these same nations can go from economic strength to economic strength and become valued trading partners and generous donators in their own right!

And if that is a leap to the right, then jump and now! This is the only approach with a snowflake's chance in hell of both slowing, then reversing both population growth and climate change!

I mean Genius, what's the point of alleged solutions (renewables) that a full two-thirds of the nations of the world cannot afford! And almost as useful as a hip pocket in a singlet, if affordable only in the advanced economies! Genius!

What you are pointing out, Binoy, was that even the loony left in Denmark finally grew brains and admitted that their dreams of power were never to be, unless they did something about the immigration of unassimilatable and problem prone Muslims and Africans into Denmark.

I don't know where you or your parents originally hailed from, Binoy. With a name like "Kampmark" I would guess Thailand. Thailand has a policy of strict Integration, to the extent that non Thai nationals like the Chinese are expected to adopt Thai sounding names.

Furthermore, when you or your family decided to immigrate, you did not want to go to Africa, South America, China, India, the Pacific Islands, or anywhere else those wonderful non white people live and govern. No. You wanted to go and live with the white guys. Looks like racism to me. And now you live here, you want everybody from Africa, South America, China, India, and the Pacific Islands to immigrate with you and dilute the white guys out of existence.

Of course, your own people in your former homeland would go nuts if Africans, South Americans, Chinese and Indians were swarming into your own country, in such numbers as to swamp and seriously dilute the native populations. And you know it. Then you have the hide to come to Australia and say that Australians are just awful because we do not want to commit social self suicide, or import any more unassimilatable and social problem prone, and crime prone, groups into our country.

Thank you for your submission, Binoy. It gives me some hope that the continued self suicide of the west may finally have reached it's use by date, when even the Left figure out that they are crapping in their own nest.

Runner, Labor here, like the Democrats in the US are actually wide awake, & don't give a damn about the negative impact on the population that high migration of the wrong people has. They are only interested in the opportunity to import votes. Power at all cost.

It is interesting that Denmark's left could regain power by voting constructively with the government, rather than the destructive way our left behaves. They are obviously much more mature, & interested in their countries well being than are our current lot. That Labor could promote, [he wasn't elected] an old school dill like Albo leader shows they have a very long way to go, to even approach what they once were.

Thank god they did not get the chance to lay out the welcome mats I'm sure they planned with this defeat.

There's a certain stench of bs that's hidden in-between the lines.

You need to recognise the code words:

'Social Democracy'
What is social democracy?
Something other that actual democracy

So what do we learn from this article?
That if a nation of citizens chooses to move in a certain direction.
- Then suddenly this is 'inhumane'?

Even though it's an expression of ACTUAL democracy;
It's obviously an 'affront' to Binoy, 'social democracy' and it's supporters.

So what have we learned about 'social democracy'?
- It has nothing to do with actual democracy, that it's just social justice warriors screwing with your brain, playing semantics;
and trying to build a narrative of bs that they hope you're dumb enough to buy into.

Look deeper

"Despite a collapse in the 2019 election (37 mandates shorn by 21), the Danish People's Party (Dansk Folkeparti, DPP) supplies a textbook example of how parties of the far right can terrify, and thus convince opponents into shifting their ground. When its candidates first gained a voice in Denmark's parliament in 1998, the DPP focused on tightening immigration, and showed a conspicuous anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant bias. The welfare state would have pride of place, but outsiders would be frowned".

Binoy obviously doesn't think democracy includes the right of people to decide who does and does not come into their own country.
His 'social democracy' means that the rights and opinions of a foreigner are more important than an existing citizen if they are a dissenter on immigration.

His 'social democracy' sits in opposition to 'real democracy'.
