Disagreement, debate, disputation, and 'difference' was central to the life of the university.

Like all educational institutions, universities need to be removed from the public teat, and forced to provide a product that people want to buy. Leave politics and brainwashing to politicians, who can be dealt with at the ballot box.

ttbn,
Only those on the public teat would disagree with your assertion.

I was once told that uni was a place for students to begin thinking for themselves.
Year twelve was the last of the traditional 'teaching' methods.
They don't have 'teachers' anymore, they are 'lecturers'.
It is because of this attitude, and the fact that students are given the wrong idea that they are in a position to give an opinion, and the fact that the students are so 'green' or so immature, inexperienced, and un-informed, that we get these extreme comments and causes.
In doing so we find that they lack the ability to think three dimensionally, and in fact because of a lack of knowledge on topic that leeds them to reach the quickest and easiest conclusion.
In doing so they resort to hate speech as a desperate need to 'win' the argument or point.
Left thinking is much easier than the right because the left does not consider ALL the parameters, but only the ones that make them 'feel good'.
