No, Israel doesn't owe Trump for the embassy : Comments

By Gary Gambill, published 21/9/2018

At the end of the day, Trump's 'gift' was made by an idiosyncratic, one-off president who has conducted Mideast policy through ad hoc channels.

*…moving the U.S. embassy had more to do with American evangelicals and the producers at Fox News (his cheat sheet on what evangelicals want) than with Israel, for which he has shown little personal affinity…*

And why not. I'm unaware of the figures, but it seems obvious to me, Trump would support American evangelicals over Jews who don't vote for him. Of course!

But Christian resentment of Palestinian over-servicing in the area, should not be ignored.
Funny though, it's a minority of Christians who are responsible for this cockeyed response at home.

And another obvious: Israel has little reason to trust American diplomacy.

The supply of Trump-haters is inexhaustible. What Israel feels it owes Trump is up to Israel, not some unknown academic scribbler. The need to rubbish the democratically elected president of the greatest democracy in the world is a disease. I wonder how long it will be before Mickey Mouse universities come up with a Mickey Mouse course just on Donald Trump.

Sounds like middle east specialising academics have their collective noses out of joint, having been ignored by Trump.

Smart man, Obama & others following their dictates have been completely ineffective for decades.

They also appear to be indulging in wishful thinking. Looks like their judgement of Trump's likelihood of re-election is about as good as their previous advice on fixing the middle east problems.

If you say so, Sir.
So why bother to negotiate any outcome whatsoever, when Israel intends to rip up any and all agreements, for some short-term political expediency that ostensibly serves the whim and caprice of, I believe, a patently corrupt and power junkie, PM.

Instead, we should wait until all patience is exhausted and an evil axis turns the land of Israel into a sea of molten glass. Which would save the resources beneath it, for another stronger foe, which already more than matches Israel's nuclear arsenal!

America's security policy establishment and loyal allies like Australia can only hope Trump is a "one-off president" leaving office in 2021.

Putin will be sad to see Trump (Russia's fawning ally*) go though.

I didn't see the name 'Sheldon Adelson' mentioned.
