It is a good while now since shortwave was dropped, with zero effect for 99.9% of people. Nance can say “rubbish” as loudly and as often as he likes. SW is obsolete technology of interest only to obsolete people. Ditto the ABC and Radio Australia, funded by taxpayers who never listened to it.

Inability to use, or even afford, the latest equipment does not make people obsolete. AM radio, whether short, medium or long wave, may appear obsolete but its simplicity brings great advantages in reliability as well as cost.

Informing people overseas of what's really going on, countering the propaganda of repressive regimes, is a very good use of Australian taxpayers' money - especially considering how little it costs!
