Erdogan has made his unscrupulous position clear to Western powers, stressing that Turkey will become as powerful and influential as the Ottoman Empire was during its heyday.

These alarm bells have been ringing for quite some time now! And because we are still tied to rationed fossil fuels for our and their economic well being! And Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber who don't have the wit or the will to chart another more liberating course! Thus we see the reliance on fossil fuels being bartered for freedom and economic sovereignty.
Once you sell your soul to the devil, for what? Forty pieces of allegorical silver? You can't unsell it nor escape your final firey destination/destiny! Why do we ignore all the all too obvious signs, portents and warnings? And choose (Benedict Arnold) leaders, so easily bought?

Just as Turkey and Russia are attempting to buy power and influence? China is being advised by Nationalistic editorial to limit our trade for some time, to essentially teach us a lesson or bring us to heel?
For years and years, our wisest heads have been advocating for far less reliance on China and sending only value-added material that resuscitates/restores our neglected manufacturing sector. Instead of Iron ore and coal being shipped there. It should leave here as the steel they then dump on our domestic market!
Moreover, we should find other markets for our clean green food production Or convert fields of waving grain etc into import replacing fibre crops. The N.T. could become almost wall to wall plantations which include coffee cocoa and rubber, just to name a few import replacing possibilities?

One of the benefits of rise of the Ottoman empire would be that it would hopefully subjugate Israel and that would surely benefit the Palestinians.

It is interesting.

While western pseudo "intellectuals" preen themselves by adopting the fashionable view that patriotism and western civilisation is the font of all evil, their counterparts in the Middle east and Asia are embracing patriotism and love of their own cultures as their own particular fashion statement.

While western chardonnay sucking trendies cringe and claim that their own culture is racist, sexist, oppressive, discriminatory, homophobic, Islamophobic, and the world's prime polluter, their middle eastern and Asian counterparts are agreeing with them. And this is giving them the justification to support their own civilisation's overthrow of ours.

History gets written by the conquerors, and western civilisation is on course to lose. Attacked relentlessly from with and without. But if any white historians survive into the 22nd century, they will write history books full of amazement about how the world's best, most creative, and advanced civilisation this planet ever had could commit social self suicide as a fashion statement. Western civilisation will end up being a liberal legend like some sort of lost Camelot. And you can bet that the surviving trendies will be blaming everybody else but themselves for their own civilisation's destruction.

The situation in the Bslkans doesn't seem to have changed significantly since the 19th century, Russia, Turkey, Serbia and the West are still playing a version of the Great Game. The notion the modern Turkey will became a neo-Ottoman power seems to be a pipe dream. Neither Russia nor Turkey are great powers now or likely to be in the future.

Russia has a significant problem with moslems so it is difficult to
see why Russia would cosey up to Turkey.
Putin still has his KGB hat on and it is unlikely that Russia's
alignment will change until he has gone.
Russia as a European country will need to align itself with the rest
of Europe to resist Turkey's plan to include Europe in the new
Ottoman Empire. At least that is Erdogan's implied intention.
Turkish support and Turkish political moves in Holland and Belgium
has been very pointed, even to having political ralleys in Holland
in support of Erdogan's election campaign.
The Dutch government banned them at the last minute with very angry
protests from Ankara.
It is inevitable that Turkey will be removed from NATO.
