Why does Mayor Tom Tait have a problem with Disney? : Comments

By Ross Elliott, published 17/5/2018

Having Disney as a constituent business would be a gold mine, I presumed, and something any Mayor would give their eye teeth for.

Yup! But we keep doing this. And just as Anaheim pays in every which way so do we! And none more self-evident that global car companies that come take billions in unearnt subsidies then leave taking the robot assembly line we paid for with them. And Anaheim compounded a similar error by virtually gifting the Disney carpark! Just to serve an ideological imperative! Or that private enterprise is king! And now pay and pay by handing total control to a multinational corporate gorilla! It's not private enterprise that's the problem just their extreme exploitive version of it! With the result that folk there can't afford three meals a day or the basic staples of life? All while the Disney profit curve ascends on an ever steeper skyward trajectory? And now in line for some astronomical tax breaks, courtesy of insane tax policy? And we here look like virtually aping that same insanity, with the only possible result being replicated here as in Anaheim! Word limits. Later. Alan B.

Four Corners showed, for the financial year ending 2017. The top tax actually paid after deductions, by any corporation in Australia, was just 13%. With some paying a lot less and one in three paying none? All while debt grows and grows? Now here's the thing. If I pay 13% and a further 7% as tax compliance costs? Making my total tax and tax-related outlay 20%? A simple unavoidable 15% flat tax with no deductions or reconciliation costs, would be 5% cheaper than I pay now and reap 2% more for the government! Or if you will 15% more from those multinational giants using the vagaries of the global economy to avoid a reasonable fair and equitable share. And guess who makes up the slack? You do dummy! With grannies who shiver every winter or expire with every new enduring heat wave. Could the country be run on a 15% flat tax everybody above a reasonable variable tax threshold pays? Well, yes. And here's how. If the middleman profit taker were an outlawed entity. The cost of living could be effectively halved and even more so, where that middleman is a fee and administrating cost charging state government. And could be circumvented by the simplicity of making all education and health, competing for private enterprise and assisted by granting a means test health and or education endowment to the private citizen then allow competition for that dollar and ever other to maximise outcomes and contain ever-escalating costs! So we've hugely increased revenue and quite massively reduced costs! All of which would be assisted by making regional autonomy both compulsory and enforceable! And shifting to a cooperative capitalist paradigm assisted by government fund and facilitation, as opposed to handing billions to absconding foreign entities!. In the sure and certain knowledge that cooperative capitalism or some closely similar version has in large part was or has been responsible for every economic miracle, the Asian tigers, a bankrupt war-torn Japan and last but not least the Celtic tiger. The latter only cruelled by debt-laden foreign speculation in their real estate market! Alan B.

Good lord Alan, do you actually watch 4 Corners.

Did they say 13% of what, or could it be on any number chosen from thin air? Nothing is much more meaningless than an un qualified number.

Yes Hasbeen and validated by comprehensive, fact-checked research and freedom of information! If you wish to impugn Four Corners and their fact checked and validated research by the country's best investigative journalists, feel free. And typical of Hasbeen and cohort, who want anything other than genuine tax reform and the end of bracket creep! As usual, the Moribund Hasbeens of this world stand shoulder to shoulder and foursquare against genuine tax reform and or cooperative capitalism! And like most conservatives would die in a ditch before allowing it to replace the extreme exploitative capitalist model that is selling the country and our children's birthright out from under them as we lurch from crisis to crisis. With every new idea shelved untried! Because some dummy thinks that protecting foreign vested interest/sovereign risk, somehow serves them? Tell that to the Irish and see how well that Plays dumkoff! Suggest you actually read what I've written before, as usual for you dumkoff, rubbishing both unread and uncomprehended!

Well at least you don't have to worry about being exploited Alan.

With that 5 ton chip on your shoulder it would be impossible for you to do anything useful for man or beast. With your miserable attitude it would be equally impossible to do anything requiring any mental use either.

Your miserable whinging does get tiresome, but "Have a nice day you hear" anyway.
