A whole open letter by Alon Ben-Meir without one mention of Erdogan using Islamic fundamentalism to de-democratise a nation.

A frank and fearless expose! And falling on deaf ears! Or in one and out the other? Nothing in between to stop it?

What comes next? An unholy alliance with an expansionist sabre rattling Russia?

As if the powder keg that is that area, needed more fanned forest fires? Manifesting as suppression and mounting unrest?

What sort of a world would we have now? If Mussolini, Hitler and Stalin had been assassinated? At the behest of leaders who grew a spine? And before they drew the world into WW11?

If we go there again? Fully two thirds of the population of the world will pay with their lives! And the target of first choice will be whole civilian populations!

Thankfully, Tyrants will be top of everyone's list!

Why? Because that's the only, when the war began tomorrow, survival strategy, for the left standing, still surviving sane!

It would defy logic to suggest that Erdogan's slow route towards dictatorship is for Turkey's benefit. But I would like to assert that.

Reason being:

Look at the Middle East right now. Compare it to the Middle East of say, 1998.

Consider which nations are relatively stable, and which are utterly destroyed.

Amazingly, the countries under dictatorship are/were stable and even prosperous. The key to Middle Eastern stability has always been dictatorship. The Greeks knew it; the Carthaginians knew it. And now you do.

I believe Erdogan senses a similar path if Turkey loses the consistency of a single ruling power. Lose Erdogan, and who knows, you may lose Turkish stability. Well written article nonetheless.
